That has got to be the most asinine thing I've seen all month. You come in here with one post and bite the hand that feeds you. These guys bust their butts to help everyone out there, and they get comments from morons like you to thank them. I am just one of many newbies that has no idea what ram means when he post some of his messages. I have been into the hobby just 6 months and know that we owe RAM very much along with a couple more guys. But we(or me) have no idea yet how to write our own private script, so i guess a lot of us will just be left hanging;) but i guess that's the way the game is played, but someday if i live long enough i will not have to depend on others to help me keep my tv going. But untill that day comes we are at the mercy of others, so i hope that the guys that can write the private scripts have fun:)
But the bad thing is i can't even get info.on where to go to purchase a private script:( And that does'nt help our cause at all.

It has been explained countless times that the purpose of the posts of potential Cmd 82's and C9's is to let people who write their own software see what potential attacks their software should be designed to withstand. It helps them write better software.

And another thing, you could have gotten the same message across without being a little *******. I have not been into this hobby long enough to know the pro's and con's of the game yet, and sure don't have the education and knowhow to write my own script, so i have to depend on others to keep going(and yes it sucks) having to depend on anyone for anything. But i still can't understand why you could not have gave your input in a more mature manner.
To me i have read and heard that Ram and AOL do a lot for this hobby, so as far as i know they deserve the credit thats due to them even through when they post i really don't understand what they are telling me. So if you can shed more light on the subject, then do so in a more mature manner.

As has been stated numerous times throuout this and other threads, these kill codes are posted to show how weak software is attacked by DTV.

Hickboy, do you honestly think that the ECM department at DTV is so lame that they couldn't come up with their own kill codes without them being provided? Do you further think that DTV is gonna come here and post how they analyze software in order to kill it? In the case of a damaging ECM, isn't it better to see how it could be done, rather than finding out after the fact how it was done?

I would be willing to bet, that if something were written that RAM9999 or aol6945 couldn't come up with a kill code for, then niether could DTV LOL :D

First, DTV has never hit that many subs. That has been greatly exaggerated - hit cards are those with changed EEPROM bytes. Pure and simple. Second, the people waiting on "the fix" to be released are another part of the problem of this hobby. They leech and contribute nothing. It is not my duty or anyone else's to support their free TV.

Who cares? The only people who care about revenue and profit are the dealers who are selling hardware that supports this hobby. The true hobbyist doesn't care. I'll build my own hardware if necessary, or a buddy will build the hardware and I'll write him the software. That's the way it used to be before this became a business that people live off of.

The true hobbyists share information and ideas through non-advertiser sponsored sources. For the true hobbyists to share information requires no dealers and no advertisers.

Oh sure, it would be greatly in the dealers' interest to post fixes. They need to unload their hardware. But they KNOW the fixed they release will go down in a few days. By selling hardware KNOWING that it will be useless, they're scamming people as far as I'm concerned.

The effort is totally futile. So you can get a couple more days of free TV and then have to glitch your card again. Is that what you want? Tell the truth, EAO. You want someone to provide you with your free TV instead of accepting the fact that the free ride is over. WHY is it my job to provide you with fixes? WHY is it ANYONE's job? It seems as though the non-technical side of this thread has taken on a life of it's own! At first I wasn't going to post in the thread at all when I first saw it in the Technical Forum, But then "someone" irritated me to the point that I had to vent as little.

Thanks, aol, for sorting it out! :)

That being said, and seeing as how the thread is where it belongs, it does bring with it an interesting discussion, and just before New Years, about the future.

Right now, we're at a juncture of sorts. There is an increase of activity by DTV. People waiting for free fixes to their free TV problems are finding the TV is on less and less. While that's the norm right now, The people who want to learn, and be resourceful, are not really having that bad a time of it, while those who sit and wait for "something" to come out, are finding that by the time they apply their fix, it only lasts a day or so. Now I don't consider myself in any way to be in the league, software-wise with the likes of RAM and aol. Compared with them I'm kinda lame. hehe But I do get my own stuff back going again by reading in here, trying things, and experimentation. If I can do it, that shows that it's not really all that hard. :) I can see that some people are new to the game, and need to get a little more experience. But there are alot of people, that we don't see between ECM's. Those people are going to be SOL in the coming months, as public fixes, and ideas become more and more scarce.

Personally I like the feeling of trying to figure out what to do, and playing with it until I get it right. (Yes, sometimes it's difficult, for me at least) But the satisfaction that comes from solving the puzzle, well you just have to do it to know what I mean.

But PLEASE, dont deny yourself the fun of at least trying !

Well......that about sums it up, right there. That is the difference between the hobbyist and the Free Tv'er. If you don't feel the way Megados describes up there, then don't expect a free ride much longer. If you do feel that way, then searching for bits and pieces of the things you don't understand and can't figure out, won't bother you at all, the search for knowledge becomes part of the puzzle in itself. Well put sir.
