A number of Bev 4700 owners have been wondering if there is a Dishlike upgrade coming to give them the 4900 inpicture/guide. My gut feeling is we will be left out in the cold with no future upgrades. :(

I think you are right.

I upgraded my Bev receiver to a 4900 and works great. The only thing is you have Dish in the menu's which is fine by me. You get the interactive weather and looks like other interactive channels may be added in the future. I think Bev is just a little slow at releasing stuff. I love the new menu's and the picture in the guide.

Quite the improvement!

CSR at bev says they have no plans for any upgrades. Argh.

Speedy,

Did you repoint your dish to one of the Echostar birds and then re-point at Nimiq?

I have a BEV 2700 receiver. I was wondering, if I point my dish to one of the echostar birds, will it update my software and allow me to have the nice guide and interactive weather that the 3100 receiver has?

Please let me know!

Thanks very much.

Pointing your receiver at a Dish sat will not download the software. You used to be able to go back and forth between the Canadian and American sats and have it download the appropiate software but they stopped that a few months ago. If you now go to the other sat you will still see Bev or Charlie in your guide but the guide will show the appropiate channels and show information. The only way now to have it download the software is to corrupt your receiver information to force a download. I wouldn't recommend doing this if you only want to watch tv on the other sat. As far as the 2700 you are limited by the 512k tsop and I don't believe you will ever be able to get the interactive capabilities. Better off getting a 3100 down the road if interested in that. Newer machines have 2 megs of memory and can hold alot more information.

You may be able to go from a 2700 to 2800 via a tsop write but I'm not sure if there is any improvement in the software and I haven't attempted it myself.
