I heard the Sony SAT-HD100 HDTV IRD is being discontinued. Can anyone confirm this?

I can't confirm it, but it's about time.

That unit is one big POS.

I have been lucky and have NOT experienced any problems with my unit. I have a sony 32xbr450 and the hd100 and through the component video connection have enjoyed a highly detailed and rich picture. I also have a sony dvd-np700 and have calibrated the picture (through the second component connection as the tv has 2) with Video Essentials and the picture quality is truly stunning for the sd channels that have a quality feed to begin with (NOT LOCAL CHANNELS ON DIRECTV). The
channel guide is not the best and i disconnected the fan and have enjoyed a quite machine with amazing picture quality. I have only had it for three weeks and i can't wait to hook an eliptical dish i got with it in the spring when the weather warms up. I can only imagine how good high defintion will look. Anyways this is a first generation sony hd unit and i am sure future generation stb will improve but i think this is a good piece for a first generation stb/directv integrated receiver. I look for Sony to announce its successor on January 8th to 11th at the annual 2002 CES show. Anyways i was wondering if anyone knows anymore details of the upcoming announcement?

The Sony is a good unit, I have no complaints. The guide and picture quality are as good as there IF you use it with a subscribed HU card as it was intended. If not,it is slow and the picture quality suffers dramatically. Especially with Emulation. The two dish set up is definately the best way to go for High Def...........just my opinon. I will be at CES next week and I will check out the new HD boxes and say "Hey" to Dave for everyone and give a report when I return.

I thought it was just my hd100. Everytime i but a 3m card in it the guide moves so very slow. works great with a subscribed card. This ony started happening when dave added all the new locals, and the fan in this receiver keeps the neighbors up. ill have to try dissconnecting it!
