Has any one been able to disable the modem on this unit. I would like to use the on screen caller-id function but not let the IRD call Dave. I believe that this IRD is made by Hughes.

Not sure if it still works the same way, but in the old days, you could just reverse the wires on your phone jack. it would give dialtone, but when you try to dial it didn't work.
I would confirm that the ird doesn't have a way to compensate for this before I hooked the line back up though...

I found it in a search...
You have to put a CAPACITOR of a certain type/size between the phone lines at the IRD!!!! I used this method on a RCA DRD440RE...Works great....Not sure of the hardware required, But I found it here in a search over a year ago....

I have a one chip internal eum. Be carfull when you solder to the card slot so you don't melt the ribbon cable. If you tip the emu wires with solder and make sure your iron is hot you shouldn't have any problems.

I have seen that mod for the rca as well as a simple 1 trace cut mod but nothing for a hughes or mitz.
