Hey guys
A friend of mine sent me this link.....thought you might be intrested....I thought the last paragraph was intresting. I would assume they are hoping for a supreme court win and then they could add more charges as I think they also have charges against them for EX I did'nt edit out the names, as it is in a public newspaper, and the names are no secret. Mods, if they should be removed anyway let me know and i'll do it right away......

RCMP receive extension to hold seized items
By Steve MacInnis
An application by the RCMP to extend the detention period of items seized as part of their investigation into alleged pirating of satellite television signals was granted Friday in Sydney.
Barry MacDonald, a justice of the peace, approved the application which grants the Mounties an additional three months to hold the items while they continue their investigation.
The application only relates to items seized in one of three raids by the RCMP last October which led to three men facing charges under the Criminal Code and the Radiocommunication Act.
Two of the accused are scheduled to stand trial May 16 and June 25 while the third, Basil (Billy) Chronis, Marconi Street, Glace Bay, is scheduled to enter a plea to the charges Feb. 27.
The charges stem from a nine-month RCMP investigation.
In granting the application, the Mounties must either return the items by April 25 to the rightful owner, charge Chronis with another offence which seals the items as evidence or make another application for further detention.
The items in question are a large number of American smart cards. The credit card size device is necessary in order for the satellite receiver to register the broadcasting signal.

Granting extensions to the RCMP is quite common. They normally have three months to charge but complained they need more time which is a delay tactic in most cases.

After my three months they sought an addition six months for a total of nine months. Arguements are presented by the Crown and defense if you want to contest it as I did.

The Judge granted an additional four months instead of the six requested by the Crown and RCMP.

The cases above have to do with theft of Canadian signals that being ExpressPuke

Hey Gunsmoke
I seem to be chasing you around tonight.....lol
I new it was about expresspuke. Was just wondering what your take was on the reference to the "American Cards" in the last paragraph? Just more crap? Or maybe the reporter just did'nt get all the facts? Or are they just hedging their bet?
Thanks
Steve :)

Well the US cards could be either... typical incorrect reporting or maybe there was some US stuff also ? or more crap to report on American cards as being illegal as proproganda...

I know Billy personally not the others and was very surprised that he was selling the Puke cards.. Billy has been around for a long time and I thought he would know better..he could have been selling both.

What do they mean charge him with another offence ? that could be related to US cards they haven't charge him with because right now as it stands those charges would be weak.. they also might be delaying for the outcome of the SCC to decide on charging him with the American cards or not.. if he had US cards or not ?

They already is a ruling in NS that ruled it was legal.

Hey Gunsmoke
I did'nt actually see the t.v report on the bust when it happened, but I heard from quite a few that they did see Dave boxes in amongst the stuff removed.
I figure maybe that's why the RCMP was looking for an extention on these items. Everything else would be held as evidence, but since there are no charges "YET" for the U.S stuff they needed the extention or would have to return em. I assume they are waiting for the SCC decision also. Hopefully the RCMP and the Crown will be dissapointed on this one ;) I guess we shall see soon.
