View Full Version : Why?

I thought it'd be cool to see all the different reasons people hack Dave.
Personnaly, I've always been good with computers. And since a young age I've used them to get into things. There is a thrill I get when I'm in a space I shouldn't be in. I think that's why emulation is the ultimate reason I hack Dave. I can use a computer or two (or three);) to gain access to a protected signal...for educational reasons only of course.
So my top reasons would be:
1: The feeling of accomplishment
2: The knowledge I receive
3: Getting all the A's games
HUGE thanks to PGM, as your software is what leads so many to that rush. I have and will continue to support you for what you've done.
Anyone else care to share??

I think the pure challenge is the greatest reason and with that comes the accomplishment you feel when you have completed.

I still don't don't why I do this stuff. I spend money on little toys like, programmers, unloopers, IRDs, small PC's and trade for those little Blue Ladies. But for what?
Hell, I even got a Platinum Sub.
So again, why do I do this?
Just to get that rush...of doing it.
My Mom would have a fit. Doing something without knowing why.

I'm cheap! I don't want to pay for something if I don't have to.

So I can watch quality programs over a clear digital signal on the west coast when I miss them in my time zone. Like the Glutton Bowl... Where else can you watch people eat beef tounges, butter, and maionese.

And rocky mountain oysters and cow brains. That's gotta be one of the sickest shows I've seen, but i liked it.

One reason only: Money.
I started hacking as a poor, hard working, single parent with hardly a dime to spare. I cancelled my sub, saved up $200 and purchased an unlooper/emulator board.
I spend most of my time listening to music anyway, so even the hashes are easy to deal with.

Guess I do this for the challenge, or because I can, but I just have to :D I'm not a big tv watcher, but let the hashing begin and I'm on a mission reading and editing!!!
That Glutton Bowl was nasty!!! I only saw the mayonaise part and had to turn it... :gg

Originally it was to save some coin. But once you get in you are hooked!
I now have a sub, and I buy all kinds of hardware/toys. I'm a paid member here, I support PGM as often as possible, and have support Kalyna as well!
Now, it's more for fun, for the challenge.

I loved the Glutton bowl, it was great! I made my whole house watch it.
Do you realize the guy who ate 4 bowls of mayo consumed roughly 25,600 calories in that stage alone!
Freakin incredible! I hope it's a weekly thing now.
Thanks for replying guys and gals.

I loved it, that little dude who won was a machine!
And yeah, the mayo dude consumed like 10,000 grams of fat! Guess they had a angioplasty doctor offstage or something

well my sister suggested my parents pay this guy $200 to give them full access on the dss card (this was right after my father went on workman's comp) and for anyonne who has ever been on workmans comp you know how it is,they basically push the limits by not sending checks for weeks at a time etc, trying to starve you out as my dad put it. anyway, about a month of having it, the blacklist started up,and bam call ext 745. the guy who did it wanted $50 to fix it. I thought id check out how much programmers costed, so i jumped on the net, found out about whiteviper, and ordered one, read learningmans guide to installing, summit stealth 1.2, and finally when i got the programmer i was ready to go, well the card wouldnt clean in basic h, so i downnloaded all the stealth scripts of the time as suggested by a poster at the forum i went toat the time, and tried to remove them, dss stealthpro worked. so i got a subd bin off my neighbors card, and went to town, pretty simple, still am in aww about paying $200 for freeware, and that was over 2 years ago.

Good question.
It all started with an electric train set I received for Christmas when I was 11 years old. When I would go hang out at my father's place of business on the weekends and holidays, I would look through books and play with machinery. Next, I got my own soldering iron, tools and books dealing with electronics. I would take everything apart just to see what was inside and if it was broken I would take a stab at fixing it. I was successful at times and other times I just learned what not to do. I had a mobile CB that I had setup as a base station by myself at the age of 12, complete with power supply and home made antenna. By the age of fourteen I had directional beams, linear amplifier, and Radio Shack plastic pig power mike. My mother would take me to the bookstore so I could buy books, so I could learn how to do stuff. I would make extra money to buy new toys with by installing antennas for people, whether it was a chimney strap or high in a tall pine tree (I have my own 150' tower now with one of the largest arrays that you will ever see). I would even do work for trade and I picked up a lot of cool stuff that way. I've been fascinated with electronic gadgets and gizmos every since I was a child. I'm still a child really, because I still have and play with me toys :).
I got into Satellites by helping a friend put up a 190' tower about 15 years ago. He was so appreciative that while I was at work one day he came over and installed a Big C band dish for me and set up all the necessary equipment inside of my house for FREE, equipment and all! Helping people out does have its rewards. Needless to say I was overwhelmed when I came home that evening and was extremely thankful for his generosity. I've been playing with satellites ever since. I, like most people here, have the money to pay for the service; I just like to tinker with the toy.

Lot of different reasons but I do it because I love to steal.

thedog, are you telling us that you are basically a Klepto and that you really can't help yourself?
If so, then welcome to the club :)
kleptomania (defined by Britannica)
recurrent compulsion to steal without regard to the value or use of the objects stolen. Although widely known and sometimes used as an attempted legal defense by arrested
thieves, genuine kleptomania is a fairly rare mental disorder. A kleptomaniac may hide,
give away, or secretly return the stolen items, but he seldom uses them or attempts to
profit ...

WHEN I MET SOMEONE THAT HAD AN SATELLITE CARD PROGRAMMED(H-CARD) AND SAID IT WAS USED FOR DIRECTV. I ASKED, WHAT IS DIRECTV??
HE SAID, "ABOUT 350 CHANNELS". I HAVE BEEN INTO IT EVER SINCE.
