I used to make my own beer. I remember one time I was boiling the wort on the stove and I walked away for a few seconds. When I returned, I had hops everywhere but in the pot. :( :(

I've also made beer the "lazy" way. You know, the can of concentrate, sugar, water? That stuff never came out as good as doing it from scratch.

If you want to try making your own beer, I'd start out the easy way. Get a beer making starters kit. That usually includes the plastic 5 imperial gallon jug (with spigot and overflow tube), a can of concentrate, bottle capper, heater belt (it wraps around the jug and keeps the contents warm), etc...

When I used to do that, it would cost me about $13 CDN to make 60 12oz bottles. The only problem I had was the consistency of the finished brew. One time it would be good, the next it would taste not so good.

There's a load of websites which give you info on beermaking. Check out :

Most of them deal with making beer from scratch.

You can also get a micro-brewery to make your beer for you. If you live in Canada, it's a lot cheaper than buying the stuff in a store. Most people who don't want to buy the stuff go that route.

I personally haven't made my own beer in almost 10 years.

I have a buddy who makes all his own beer. Last July 4 we drank about 30 beers a piece, then went to a store for cigs( I know, no drinking and driving but it was only a 1/4 mile down the road) . I pulled up to the gas pump and stuck the nozzle in the tank to fill up but the pump never came on so I went inside. Inside were a couple other buddies and we talked for a few minutes to make plans to go to the lake later that night. Anyway I got my cigs and we jumped back in the car and headed home. It never even occured to me about the nozzle still being in the gas tank until I heard the awful noise behind me. The whole pump was ripped out of the island and now dragging behind me:K LOL!
