You have heard the arguement that we don't contribute to the Canadian Television Fund.
Below is a sample of shows that get funding. There are tons more and frankly I never heard of any of them except the Beachcommer
Shows like:
Blue Murder
Cold Squad
Da Vinci's Inquest
Red Green Show
Rideau Hall
This Hour has 22 Minutes
Degrassi: The Next Generation
Hoze Houndz
The Toy Castle
Wumpa's World
Edgemont

Red Green is that idiot who destroys cars, buildings and himself sometimes on US PBS channels. There is one show that should never have been funded by anybody. We ought to make the "bitc*" of the north (Copps) watch every episode 3 times.

I think most Canadians if given the chance would say goodbye to those in exchange for US and Foreign programs
Honestly never heard of them
Anybody know this one Hoze Houndz ? even the names sound ridiculas

lol...as a big fan of the original degrassi series, i've gotta see this 'next generation degrassi', although i've been lucky enough not to be subjected to any canadian television for the past few years. your right gs2, thats some real sad programming, how about the cbc and their rediculous biker mini-series..:R

Well I gotta atleast say a few things about the ones I know.
First.. One guy cant say a show is ----ty and make it the final word. I dont like Law and Order but I like Hill Street Blues. I dont like Lavrene and Shirley but I like Mork and Mindy. I dont care for horror movies but I like suspence movies.. Its personal preference.. each to his own.
I know and like: BeachCommers, Degrassi (All series) and Danger Bay.
I know about: This Hour has 22 Minutes, Hoze Houndz (cartoon,) The Toy Castle, Da Vinci's Inquest, Cold Squad and Red Green.
As for the others.. I dont know.. dont like them or could care less about.
3 Shows out of all the Canadain ones I have seen sure anit enough to justify the government taking away my DTV dish.

You forgot to mention the incessant re-runs of Anne of Green Gables and those awful national history "features" on CBC.
When I got into DSS I pared down my cable to the rock-bottom sub, but you know, apart from my wife taping Coronation St (UK show on CBC) and the occasional glimpse of the CBC 10pm news (rather watch Leno from NY),I never watch cable anymore. If there looks like a future in the H/HU, I might just cancel the cable and pickup some rabbit ears.

the Red Green show is funny as chit... so is This hour and one you didn't mention, Royal Canadian Air Farce... but as mentioned, it all comes down to personal opinion... there's a ton of US crap on both systems that isn't worth the effort to press the power button on the remote for either...
you are correct, (there are a few more programs you didn't list), this does not give rise to the 'protectionism' the the government/mega corporations asked for and are granted...

I still don't understand why we need to protect these channels. Normally if a company is not sucessful they go bankrupt.
Why don't they protect the Montreal Expos who are going to leave Canada because they can't compete against US teams that have substantial revenues from TV.. or other Canadian teams
Where do you draw the line ?

okay in keeping with the liberals ( there's an oxymoron for ya ) current policy to "protect us at all costs from the evils of the world" next they will ban non canadian hockey and baseball teams from playing in Canada cause like dave they may have a better line up. LOL:D

No this post is not off topic. I WAS just out adding a DAVE LNB to my BUD and I realized something. The CDN government wants me to watch CDN content BUT THEY TOOK THE ANALOGUE C BAND CBC FEED OFF THE AIR!!!
That was the reason for attatching the DAVE lnb to the BUD...just to see what I could get since I CAN"T WATCH "THIS HOUR" OR HOCHEY NIGHT IN CANADA EXCEPT OVER A CRUMMY VHF ANTENNA!!!!
Sorry for the shouting but this is all so moronic. Hey Sheila, if you want me to watch CDN programming maybe you should make it available. I already paid my taxes once so I sure as H#LL shouldn't have to pay to watch it.
Gonna pour myself another drink.....

that's right, there is no canadian content on BUD, so, the SC ruling doesn't just affect the small dishes... but the 1000's of BUD's still out there.. (sure you can get wild feeds and some open programming, so they can't do too much with them,,, but they'll work on it... I mean, you can get a NBC wild feed on a BUD, so if you watch that, then BEV isn't getting the revenue from you right?? )

I also know that at the CBC main office in Toronto, the employees get custom made ergonomically chairs fitted to their measurements. To think, my job application was turned down :(

CBC = Communist Broadcasting Corporation
Their motto: "Comrades--you WILL watch our programming!"
