It seems the fine lady is a member here on the Den :)

Why don't you come here and post. I'll administrate it fairly or chose a site of your preference.

No sense in hiding and more logically to debate the issues.

I would like to discuss Canadians who want the *right* to *pay* and receive US or Foreign signals that originate outside of Canada that are not available from Canadian broadcasters which also have no copyright holders in Canada.

star reporter May 03,2002 (http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1020377091069)

this article is about some poll that supposedly proves that most canadians want to keep their tv the way it is.... what she needs to realize is that the opinions of a few should not superceed the rights of the whole. and i doubt that the people polled were well informed individuals....

my other comments:

what i like is that fact that she criticizes some of our inteligence levels(not in the article but in her previous ones).. does she not realize that idiots cant do what the people here do, it takes some serious technical knowledge to reverse engineer/hack a companies security system. she talks about how some of us are illiterate... well some of us are having to translate into english what we want to say so that the majority of people can understand us. it is not easy going from russian, french or spanish to english ,maybe she should take that into consideration.( and in the case of "ed12" i think he might be from the louisianna bayou, and speaking some darilect of cajun, that or some form of code).

on the other hand she does have a right to be offended by some of the people making rude and distastful comments, people need to realize that sending her hate mail does nothing but prove her point that we are lesser people. instead send her well written email expressing your point without bringing her ---ual preference into it (do we really care weather she spits or swallows?) and what she looks like plays no role in this (if she was a stunner she would be on the TV news stations not writing in a paper) plus it has nothing to do with the fact that her intelligence may or may not be lacking.

and yes obviously she reads in here... God i hate people that think they know everything despite the fact that they dont know nothing.

I thought that her article today merely states that they wanted to keep the public channel funded. Isn't that like keeping your local channels? Heck, I pay the extra for my local channels because it is local,..... but I didn't keep cable due to it's lack of variety.

Like GS2, I would like her opinion of the grey market peeps. They pay for the service, .... are they still thieves then?

She is lucky that GS2 is kind enough to offer her a platform for discussion and offer to moderate it. That's nice and very civil.

When it comes to non-news programming genres — cop dramas, sci-fi, romance series (chick shows, okay?) — Canadian content "does not emerge as a vital consideration." This is not news, considering how U.S. shows almost always out-rate homegrown entertainment programming.

Not sure what the poll is suppose to show. I watch CBC and CTV for news but I also watch US broadcasts for news.

I also watch TSN for sports but I also watch Espn also for sports.

I am not for dismantling CBC or CTV but I am also not for restriction on US or Foreign signals.

500 is a very small number to take as a poll out of 30 million Canadians

To the lady who writes these articles could you please take a poll that ask Canadians if they agree with the Supreme Court decision that prohibits them from receiving US or Foreign signals from providers other that ExpressVu and Star choice.

If you take a poll in rural areas that never had cable they would say they are fine with the Supreme Court decision

On the other hand if you take the same poll in the Spanish community of Montreal or Toronto they would say that they don't agree with the Supreme Court decision

Therefore a poll of 500 is not accurately report either way.

Maybe the fine lady at the Toronto Star could make a poll on their web site that would allow any Canadians to participate if they want.

Again I am asking about the right to pay for signals that are now illegal and you can put that in your question.

Do you think Canadians should have the right to pay for TV signals that originate outside of Canada which there is no copyright holders in Canada of these signals that are not available through Canadian Broadcasters and are not license under the CRTC

Yes or No

PS what a coincedence as I write this I had someone call about a survey about TV channels. He asked questions about CBC then CTV.. then I stopped him and asked if he was going to ask about any US stations.. since the answer was no I terminated the call.

I agree with phoztech. Keep ---ual comments out and spell check! :) Why give them ammo and a reason to assume the incorrect? Besides, her article (the 2nd one) sounded unprofessional. All those references to 'only in your dreams' (ok I paraphrased) just brought her down to the level of the people she's supposedly retaliating.

And yes, I agree, her little rant seems to be filler for lack of anything else to write. Which pretty much sums up the Toronto Star since they pay by quantity and not quality.

There's a very interesting poll on the Canoe.ca web site:

CNEWS Poll:

Should U.S. satellite TV services be banned in Canada?

Total Votes for this Question: 15347

So far, 11% have voted for Yes
So far, 84% have voted for No
So far, 6% have voted for Don't Care
