I serviced a bunch of them things a long time ago...
I'm a big race fan, so naturally pole position was Big!
Pac man, I remember when it first come out (waiting to get one), later I could run patterns from memory all the way to 15 or 21 keys, I forget exactly...
Donkey kong, yep, remember that, seems like your right, it stunk!
I was pretty hot on centepede too! (the track ball was different)...
What was it? Asteroids? I kicked butt on that too!

Defender was awesome! (hyperspace!)

Then later, I jousted everyone to death! (Ahahahahahahaaa.!)

Darius was a great game, along with Dragon's Lair and all those other videodisc games...anybody remember Space Ace? Cliffhanger? Cliffhanger was my favorite of that genre. As for regular old video games, probably my favorites were 720 (a skateboard game), Crazy Climber, Excitebike, Star Wars, Shinobi,...,whew, too many more to name! :D

Anybody else playing with MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator)? That thing rocks! I just wish I could find Cliffhanger for that thing, but alas, that will probably never happen. Too bad the main mame website had to take down all of their ROMs, but you can still find em if you know where to look....

What a trip down memory lane! :D :D

Has anyone been to an arcade recently? The games are really incredible. Some of the virtual reality ones make you feel like you are acutally participating...

But the old ones are great!

Punch-Out!
Commando
Narc
Kung-FU (I think that is what is was called, had two joy-sticks per person, used different combinations to perform differnt moves)
Terminator...

I could spend all day thinking about them all.

Bubble Bobble
Punch Out
Defender
Missle Command
Elevator Action
Dragon's Lair/Space Ace...have both of these on my PC

Hey Psycho, what version of Dragons Lair do you have with your PC. I have an older CD Rom verion that is good but not great, I had heard they were coming out with a newer one last year sometime, but to be honest I had forgotten about it until this thread popped up.

Oh Yeah Karate Chanp kicked ass. Anyone ever see a PC version for Tron?

I thought about another one I used to like Burger Time. Joust was great, so was Q-bert. I actually have very good DOS versions of both defender and Qbert I still play once in a while.

My curiosity has been peaked on the MAME stuff, anyone give a little more detailed explanation, it sounds quite interesting.

Zaxxon
Starcastle
Gravitar
Disc's of Tron

Those were my favorite. I actually won a full sized Zaxxon Machine in about 1982 for having a real high score in a local arcade contest, I played for 57 hour straight . The last 12 hour I played with only 1 ship left ! My hands were sore for a bout a week ! Lmao

Those were the daaaaaaaay (add Archie and Edith harmony here LOL)

My 3 favorite games were Robatron, Joust, and Sinastar. I could play Robatron all day, it has 233 different stages then it repeats them again, My high score was 40 million then I got tired and gave the game to some rookies to burn through all the extra guys I had. If I could find a stand up model of that game I would buy it in a second. If anyone knows were to get them please post it...GL

I would LOVE to get involved in something like that. I thought I had a lot of games (about 250 meg), but now I realize that "a lot" is a relative term. ;) Anybody have a good link they can pm me for more roms? I've been kind of in the dark as to where to find roms since mame dot dk shut down their rom service. :( :(

Rust, I'd be glad to swap a disk with you, but I think you'd be getting the raw end of the deal.... ;)

emulition has a 24-7 ftp site with all current mame roms. i connect there with my extra phone line for several weeks at a time, although now, all i mainly have to get is the newest ones. version .60 of mame was just released, and it supports a lot of new games.

Rust said:

Then, Biaboc said:

Another good source of roms is usenet. There is almost always a MAME rom flood going on in alt.binaries.emulators.misc and alt.binaries.emulators.arcade.

Cool; thanks for the info, Rust & Biaboc! I kinda gave up on usenet as a whole when the signal-to-noise ratio got really low. Sounds like I'll have to start checking usenet out (at least those two groups) again.

Emulition, a.b.e.m. & a.b.e.a., here I come.... :D

I have a space invaders arcade machine. Picked up for about $20 when I was in college. Things still works.

May 17th, 2002, 12:53 AM
Hey, $20 for a space invaders is a real score..

Ive got a Centipede stand up that i bought for $125can,this machine in similer condition sells for over $900us on Ebay. I guess its story is that the people ran an arcade in the early 80's and owned all their own machines, when they went out of busness they ended up storing all the machines in the basment of their house.. I found this out at a birthday party when i was in 7th grade.. Went back in 2001 and they were still there :)...

This machine is almost MINT, very little wear on the side art and paint.. It even came with all the factory issue sticker sheets for the coin door (atari logo, 25-50cents a play..). Strangly theres a tonne of wear on the control panel overley that seems out of whack with the condition of the machine......But i guess if your the only one for 50miles that runs an arcade your gonna get alot of play on your machines..

I'd trade my left nut for
A. stand up pacman (Ugly yellow machine ;))
B. Williams cyclone pinball machine

They have a mint playboy pinball machine in their basment too, but i tried and tried but couldent get them to sell it.... Well not for 125bucks anyway.

Jest.

P.s. anyone know how to fix/trouble shoot these things, It freezes once in a while.. i think i have a bad rom.

Has anyone mentioned Spy Hunter? That game kept me entertained for hours. And I can't remember the name of the army game where the screen scrolled down. You were a little soldier with 2 or 3 hand grenades and a crappy little machine gun...

But back around the late 80's maybe early 90's there was a game that showed up at a local arcade. It had a flat table top surface with a sphere, pyramid and block on the surface, similar to the EA logo, but they were actually 3 dimensional. A 3D holographic cowboy would appear and introduce each level of the game. Each level would be played partly on the 3D flat surface with the holographic images and partly on the standard game screen. It was some sort of time traveller shoot up game. It was the coolest game I have ever played as far as uniqueness. It was only around for about a month or so and then it disappeared. I never saw it again anywhere. Anyone else ever see game like this, I definately would love to get my hands on this one.

My parents own a REAL old ass pinball machine, Williams horse racing, nothing digital hehe,, hit contacts on top, 1-9 and the horse (on a stick) moves across the track, when one makes it (hopefully yours as up to 9 can play) they get a bunch of points and what not.. shoots tha ball out with a big metal button. about 10000 Silver relays running this thing, score is done on number wheels..

SMell of O-zone real strong while playing :)

I am giving away my age here, but I remember when PONG first came out. 25 cents for 2 players. I don't recall it having much for graphics though. Just a black/dark grey screen about 19 inches in size in a big wooden cabinet.White square "ball" with "paddles" on the bottom that were controlled by a big knob you rotated to the left or right and their size decreased as the game sped up.
