I just bought a tivo from a dealer friend. Are there in any do's and dont's I should be aware of before I start the service? Will I have to leave the phone line plugged in or leave it out like the IRD?
Thanks for any advice.

The phone line has to be connected all the time. Do not do it. You can add the tier for it. 628A , but you have to do it in activation to get it to work, or so I have been told. I myself would love to put it in my 3M, but I do not know how, YET.:)

I've got a Tivo and have no problems. Just be sure to call and opt out of all data collection and be sure that when the Tivo does call in, that it has the right card number on it. You don't have to have the Tivo plugged in all the time. You only need to plug it in once every 17 days. No biggie in my view. Others are afraid Tivo will tell Dave, however if they do, they have breached their privacy guarantees and could be sued for any losses you incurred.
Lots of people pirate and have Tivo.
Oh, and I am not sure what adding that tier does. I believe that is for Replay or Ultimate TV.
