HARTLEY STEWARD'S column (May 7) has prompted me to write: I have Bell ExpressVu and I'm glad to have it, since I can take it with me to my RV - but I have some beefs.

Whether it's cable or Canadian satellite, if a program is broadcast at the same time on a Canadian channel as it is on an American channel, they substitute the Canadian channel on the American channel. As a result I have to watch the same nauseating commmercials over and over again.

Please give me "freedom of commercial choice." Thank goodness for the mute button on my remote, it saves my sanity.

And now if we choose to go to an American satellite, ExpressVu, StarChoice and our courts want to make us feel like criminals.

To see the multi-million-dollar commercials on the Super Bowl, I have to go to a friend's house that has an aerial so I can see them on a Buffalo channel. Maybe I should give up TV altogether and start reading my latest John Grisham novel - before they criminalize American books in Canada.

Please don't criticize me for being anti-Canadian - I love my country, but let's face it, our entertainment industry can't compete with the U.S., so let us choose the station we want to watch without interference.

(We're with you, although when it comes to the "freedom" to see U.S. programming, commercials aren't exactly at the top of our list)
