View Full Version : Multiswitch/Diplexer question

Ok, I have a dual LNB dish hooked to a 4 way multiswitch. Currently, only 2 outfeeds are coming out of the Multiswitch. I had planned on running two more sets of rg6, until I saw my neighbors DISH 500 setup that was professionally installed. The combined the 2 lnb feeds with a diplexer, so only two runs of rg6 were needed. Since I only need feeds to 2 rooms (dual feeds for UTV), can I combine two feeds fronm the multiswitch with a diplexor, and then un-combine them inside the house? I didn't think this would work, but I sure would like to just have the rwo runs of rg6.
Thanks in advance.
ps - I am not trying to combine over-the -air signal or cable.

No, you cannot combine DTV using a diplexer. If you saw a DTV dish with the 3 LNB's you would see a similar setup for the LNB's that are looking at the 119 and 110 orbital slots.
In these cases the LNB's outputs that are combined are each picking up different numbered transponders so when combined they do not interfer with each other

I see. The setup I saw was a Dish 500 that had two seperate LNB's for two seperate satellites. That is why it worked, and my idea won't.
Thanks!

What you saw was not i diplexer. It is a sw21 multiswitch. It has 2 satellite inputs and 1 receiver output. To date there is only one way I know of to get multiple receivers or feeds off one line, and it only works for single sat DirecTV. It is called a "stacked" system. They are often used on apartment buildings and are not readly available. Probably not cheap either.

I have a dish 500 with 2 dual LNBs one at 119 and the other at 110.
I cannot get locals on one of the IRDs at all times, periodically I loose the locals one one of the IRDs.
This IRD is about 100ft away and was wondering if this could explin loss of locals.
I have tested signal strength and it's in the 100s. I understand that locals come on 110 however, I was unable to set up IRD for 110 and 119 at the same time, so I run both from 110.
Can anyone explain why i would loose locals on one of the IRDs sometimes and possible how to resolve.
TIA

They both are updated to latest version, but would that couse me to receive locals some times.
Can length of cable cause loss of locals?

E1, thanks for the feedback.
As I said before I have 2 IRDs.
Once a JVC the other an Echostar. The Echostar is upstairs on a short leg and the JVC downstairs about 100ft.
I have a dish 500 dish with 119 and 110 dual LNBs.
I connect both legs to 119 and the Echostar IRD checks ok and I get both odd and even transponders. The JVC only gives me odd.
I have a SW21 switch which I connected a leg from 110 and 119 and connected output to Echostar and I found the switch and got 119 odd and even, but when I connected that leg to the JVC I got no signal and it did not detect the presence of SW21. I am wondering if this could be some sort of electrical problem.
I have subsequently connected JVC back to original leg and still watching only odd number transponder channels.
The error I get when I switch to even number transponder channels is :
Error 002
Satellite signal has been lost, signal acquistion in progress please wait.
Channel : 241
Satellite: 119
Transponder 20
Hope this helps

E1, how can I mix that up, the switch has 2 inputs and 1 output. I have 2 dual LNBs 1 LNB is 119 and the other is 110. If I take a leg from each LNB and connect to switch input and then connect output to cable that goes to IRD.
I have been following some past threads and I am wondering if it could be a problem with cables. I am going to check the cables and see if that could be causing problems.
Since I am not using the 110 satellie then I could also get rid of the switch as it does not serve any purpose, but I will try that and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks again.
