With Direct TV puting the slams on everyone in sight (and even the ones who think they are hiding), why are there still so many "dealers" involved ?. Is this driven ONLY by greed, with no regard for what the consequences could be, or have they (some),become wiser in their Ops with regards to record keeping and equipment being available for raids ?.

Hi Mumblypeg,

You ask a very good question to which there seems to be no reasonable answer.

A couple of years ago this appeared to be perfectly legal in Canada with many courts ruling that way. Today the landscape is quite different and with the knowledge people have about the various raids in the USA its rather difficult to understand why others continue to operate at all. They are still raiding places almost daily and here is one of the latest.

Pegasus Helps With Piracy Bust

Pegasus said it helped FBI personnel in the
arrest and indictment of three individuals in
Round Rock, Texas, allegedly involved in
satellite TV piracy.

Duy Kha Nguyn, Tung Ngo and Linda Thu Pham,
all of Round Rock, were each charged with with
one count of violating U.S. law prohibiting
activities related to the theft of satellite
television programming and with one count of
money laundering. They were charged in U.S.
District Court for the Western District of
Texas in Austin, Pegasus said.

As a result of the charges, the government
seized more than $100,000 in cash and property
from the group, Pegasus said. If convicted,
the charged individuals also could be subject
to substantial fines and up to 20 years in prison.

It's alleged that the group operated an organization
called Virgin Cleaners that was a major supplier
of components used in satellite TV signal theft.
The group is accused of using three Web sites to
sell and distribute illegal satellite TV equipment
to the public, Pegasus

Given what we all know today I personally find it difficult to understand why people continue to operate but I don't think there will be an answers given. I have a hard time understanding it completelyhttp://www.legal-rights.org/images/ttrk.gif

I do not think it is greed now, although at first I am sure it was. Lately, with tall the publicity, I do not see there being any large amounts of money to be made period. For the most part there is no money left in hardware, as most are just trying to liguidate stock as they have closed out. As for s/w goes..... well lets just say that many normal jobs will pay as much money, as you will make selling s/w.

The idea that these dealer have I guess is that if and when we get a favourable ruling on the charter challenge, they will have all inplace to milk that for all it is worth. Many of these people feel they have nothing to lose, until they are shown otherwise. These dealers still running as usual are just fooling themselves.

Now not to intentionally scare people, but it could also be used as a method to find out who all the end users are as well as dealers who do volume. It would not be unheard of for a dealer to get busted but then work with authorities. Before I closed down on the day of the SC ruling, there were many companies offering to sell me things I could never manufacture at the prices they were willing to sell at. It at the time just made me wonder just how these guys were making any money at this. In retrospect I look back at this now as maybe the idea was not so much to make money as it was to gather information. Now, can I prove any of this? No, and as of yet I have not seen them do anything that would indicate my feelings were right, but I still have those feelings, no matter what. Each person should look at the situation and analyse what they see and act accordingly. It may well end up being the best time you have spent on the net.
