When I got home today from work, I had a USPS certified mail notice in my mailbox. Yesterday, a friend in the same town received a similar certified letter, and it was "the" letter from DirecTV. Would I be better off avoiding the delivery of this letter and not sign for it? Or should I sign for it, read it, and ignore it until something else happens?

as someone familiar with certified mail, i can tell you that it really doesnt matter what you do -the letter will be held at the P.O for 15 days and 5 days from now you will recieve a 2nd notice and after the 15th day if you havent picked it up it will be returned to sender as unclaimed-these attempts are all that is required legally and signing for it or ignoring it makes no difference in the legal world-good luck

Yes my Attorney said I should pick it up which I did. It makes no differnce. I know someone else that is ignoring it he wants to string it out to the last minute before contacting them. I'm not sure whats best. If a person plans to settle there case with them what is better waiting till the last minute or contacting them right away?

If you plan to settle do it ASAP. It seems that more you wait the more you pay since they've raised "the settlement bar". Do not admit anything, instead of that try to "buy peace".
