It's a Long one Folks :)

Hello Friends,

It’s good to see you all another fine Sunday. It makes us aware that we are alive to see another week pass.

As I look out upon the Congregation I see many familiar faces, also I see many new ones as well and as always I am grateful that we meet again. Today I would like to talk about “A Little Good News”.

It seems lately that all we hear are the worst of things on the news. We see beatings, Rape, Abductions of children while they play outside their own homes, they have been molested, abused and some have been killed.

We also see the words “WAR” all around us and see many of our troops scattered out among countries rather than just one. Today my friends I want to share some still sad stories but ones that are somewhat final but good did prevail or at least something positive is coming forth from a situation.

So here we go my Friends, Lets share “A Little Good News”.

1. Victim: 2 Girls Kidnapped and Girls Tried to Kill Abductor: BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Two teenage girls tried to kill their kidnapper while he slept by stabbing him and hitting him on the head with a whiskey bottle, one of the teens said in a television interview Friday. Jaqueline Marris, the 17-year-old girl who was taken at gunpoint from a lovers lane near her southern California town and raped, told local KABC-TV August 2, 2002 that she and 16-year-old Tamera Brooks stabbed their attacker in a failed bid to escape.
Marris said she and Brooks failed to overpower kidnapper Roy Ratliff, Ratliff was shot after pointing a gun at one of two deputies who were first to reach the scene, authorities said. The deputies fired 17 shots in all. "Those two girls are safe and I honestly believe they were probably 10 minutes away from being killed and buried out there somewhere in that ravine," the sheriff said. Both teens were reunited with their families Thursday at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield and later returned to their homes.

2. Prayers cited in PA miracle: QUECREEK, PA (July 28, 2002) — All nine miners trapped since Wednesday night deep in a coal mine, were pulled safely to the surface early Sunday morning. All tentatively appeared to be in good health and were taken to local hospitals for evaluation. Every 15 minutes, another miner was brought from the collapsed mine.
Each survivor was seen as a victory by the people who worked so diligently to free them from the earth. "Someone yelled 'Praise the Lord!' It was that kind of uplifting moment," he said. The families reacted similarly, hugging, crying and rejoicing. "They were overwhelmed," Schweiker said. "I said to them something like 'it's a miracle, they're all alive!”

Disney Buys Pa. Miners' Stories LOS ANGELES (AP) - The nine Pennsylvania coal miners who were trapped underground for 77 hours have sold the TV and book rights to their story to The Walt Disney Co. for $150,000 each, their lawyer said Saturday. The deal includes a movie for Disney's ABC network and a book to be published by the Burbank company's Hyperion Publishing division, Pittsburgh attorney Thomas Crawford said in an interview. Crawford said he received more than 120 offers for the miners' stories.

3. Fewer Crashes, More Lives Saved: Dramatic new studies show that the parent-supervised, restricted-driving programs used in graduated driver licensing (GDL) systems now in place in 34 states can keep young drivers safe while they're in training. In North Carolina, fatal crash rates dropped 57% after GDL systems began; in Michigan, rates for all crashes among 16-year-olds fell 25% with GDL.
The catch: Some states lack a GDL system. And in others, loose GDL rules don't protect novice drivers against their two top crash hazards: night driving and teenaged passengers. The solution: "Parents can adopt the most useful elements from the GDL systems from around the country," Dr. Foss suggests. "It could save a teenager's life." Here's how.

Level 1: Drive only with an adult in the car--for 1 year. Parents should slowly expose a young driver to new challenges, such as night driving, city streets, highways, supermarket and mall parking lots, and driving with additional passengers.

Level 2: Solo driving with restrictions--for 6 months. Your teenager may drive alone, but only between 5 am and 9 pm, and never with passengers under age 21.

Level 3: An adult driver's license. It's granted only after 6 months at level 2 with no accidents or traffic violations.

4. Falling Man is Saved by a Dog: AKRON, Ohio (USA) Kevin McDonald was on the job painting a home in Akron last week when the ladder that was supporting him gave way, dropping him from the roof about 12 feet to the ground. There, the wounded man lay critically injured and bleeding. However, the family dog, a Golden Retriever, was there and watched the entire episode. Next-door neighbor Marie Istvan describes how the fast-acting pooch ran to her house and enlisted her help.

"He acted real funny like there was something wrong," says Ms. Istvan. After following the dog back to the other house, she found Mr. McDonald laying in a pool of blood and barely moving. The woman called for help right away. Due to the quick response, emergency personnel arrived on the scene in enough time to treat the injured man. After two days at the hospital, he was released in good condition and, after thanking Ms. Istvan and the dog for saving his life, he returned to work.

5. An effort to save Lives so that our troops may not be harmed using a new technology: U.S. Tests Robots in Afghanistan: QIQAY, Afghanistan (AP) - Hermes the robot edged its way into the dark cave, its treads spinning over the dust and small rocks until a boulder appeared in its path. No problem. The tiny machine dropped its side arms, lifted onto and over the boulder, and rolled on, its two cameras sending images to an operator waiting outside.
On Monday, Hermes was first to enter many of the dozen caves being searched by troops from the 82nd Airborne Division, based in Fort Bragg, N.C. Mounted with two cameras and rolling on lime-green wheels and tan treads, the 1-foot-tall, 3-foot-long Hermes disappeared into the darkness, sending images back to a controller who used a joystick to maneuver the robot over boulders, around obstacles and through ground that could be mined or otherwise dangerous.

6. Man Recovers After Battling, Killing Cougar: VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - A man was recovering from serious injuries on Friday after he managed to use a pocketknife to fight off a vicious attack by a cougar on a remote road on northern Vancouver Island.
Attacked in the head, 62-year-old David Parker was able to pull out his small folding knife and kill the cat during the incident on Thursday evening. He then walked more than half a mile to get help from workers at a log-sorting facility.
"The will to live was definitely in this person," said Corporal Jeff Flindall of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Port Alice, a small coastal logging community about 195 miles northwest of Vancouver. Police said Parker was walking alone down a private road in the woods outside Port Alice when the adult male cat weighing about 90 pounds attacked him from behind, injuring his head and face.

7. HIV vaccine trial to start in Italy: SUMMARY: The final stage of testing of a vaccine that could both prevent and treat the HIV virus will start in Italy this October. The final stage of testing of a vaccine that could both prevent and treat the HIV virus will start in Italy this October. Italian researchers said it could produce results within 2 years.

Well folks all I am trying to stress today is that there are some good things still going on this world, there are also new discoveries and tests that are being used to promote life and to further it. I know some of the issues above do not seen like they are at the top of the List these days nor do they make the big headlines for a long period of time.

As I take a sip of water to do a dry mouth I will prepare to close.

Some of the issues above mean a lot to people in this world. Can you imagine 2 young Ladies being abducted and almost killed? Can you imagine what it is like to work in a deep black hole in the ground and be trapped? (I worked in mines myself in South Eastern Kentucky years ago and it is a living but it is dangerous). Also lately more of our Youth’s car related deaths have been reduced due to parents getting involved, that is a great thing my friends!

Above mentioned is also another story about a DOG saving a MAN! Isn’t odd how some people say that animals are stupid but yet Man’s best friend just saved a (A Human Life “A Man”). Robots also mentioned above to help preserve life of those that are fighting a cause for you and I in distant lands, they do it and they don’t question the reasons but they do it for FREEDOM!

Mentioned above also is a story about a Man killing a Cougar with a pocketknife! I think it was pretty darn brave and the 62-year-old man kicked some cougar butt with his Swiss Army Knife! I hope he stuffs that sucker! And finally a possible new treatment for HIV, hopefully a prevention of spreading this virus. Folks we have all learned that this Virus is blind when it comes to --- and Gender so this Virus could consume any of us if we were not prepared, This is no longer what some may call a Homo---ual’s disease but a disease upon the earth that is spreading and I pray we stop it.

Friend’s thanks for showing up to the Sermon today and remember to be kind to someone on this fine day, it could make a difference in a persons life! Possibly maybe even your own!

Again as always I thank you for showing up to the Sermon and again I must say may GOD Bless You All this fine day!

Can I get an Amen?

Too many times the news is neglegeted because it is a souce of tragedy. I watched as the brave men were pulled from the mine. (the only job they were ever trained to do) and i saw the looks on their faces... like we knew it was dangerous but we did it anyway. IT always reminds me of the people of 9/11. They knew their job was dangerous but did it anyway. There are people like that all over the world. I am 24 with a college degree in computers and i can not get a job. MY dad is a cop. and he wanted me to be teh best no matter if it meant following in his footsteps. Now i look at these stories and i see that there are rewards bigger than money for people in positions where you truely work "For the People". I really wanted to say thank you for the uplifting stories as i rarely see them on CNN, MSNBC, or the local news. Stumpy if there is one person i will say is needed around here besides rise, bone, psycho, cell, or any of the others regulars in the bs forumn it is you right now..... talk to you soon

Merc OUT

P.S. and if Big Daddy ever leaves the emu forumn i am out!

Amen Brother.
As allways I start my Sunday here to reflect on the past week and to get realigned to the new week ahead. I was driving a truck last weekend when I head the news about the miners. It made me happy to know everything was well with them. As for the truck, I drove it 1263 miles thru the hills at some places going 35 mph because that all the faster it could go uphill fully loaded. At the end of the trip was a hill that seemed a mile high, half way down the other side was my destination. I pulled into the drive way and stoped, got out to see where I needed to put the truck and got back in to back into the spot. When I steped on the break peddel it poped and went clean to the floor. The right front break line had blown, it was rusted and old and couldent have had anything holding it together. As I looked out at the hill I had just come down, I knew that me and this 11,000 lb truck would have been at the bottom of that hill going 100 mph or faster with no place to go. Someone was watching out for me last weekend.
So,
Amen brother, Amen.

Does anyone find it odd how those miners had hired a lawyer in Pittsburgh to negociate book and movie deals before they even had dried out?
