ok so i ordered from a company about 3 weeks ago and about a week into their 4 day shipping i emailed just asking for a status...
they replied with "your credit card did not go through..." i was like ok so i check my credit card and there were no charges made to it.. so no big deal , i re-ordered with a different credit card just incase there really was a problem with the first.
about a week into this one i emailed for tracking status and get this reply....

(i have edited this to maintain the respect and "good" name of company/individuals)

Dear Customer,

Thank you for making an Order with XXXXXXXXXX. Due to fraudulent practices on the Internet we will have to request to see some Identification:
1. Driver’s License or Passport.
2. phone bill
3. Credit Card you used to make the Order with your Name on it.

You can scan this to me by E-mail or Fax it to my attention on 555-555-5555. Please make sure that your order number is included on your scanned E-mail or on your Fax.

Once we have received these documents they will be used confidentially with the utmost discretion. We appreciate your understanding on this subject matter, as we are a small Internet Company that feels the need to protect ourselves against the harsh realities of Online Retailing.

If it is possible do not call us, (only if you send your id by fax), it is easier for you and for us keep in touch by e-mail and do not forget to write your order number.

Regards

Claudia

I was shocked that they wanted this info.....
my reply :

Dear xxxxxxxxx,

Thank you for not processing my order twice and not notifying me when you decide to cancel my order. Due to fraudulent practices on the Internet I am going to have to request to see some Identification from all the xxxxxxxxxxx employees/management/owners:
1. Driver’s License or Passport.
2. phone bill
3. Credit Card you used to make the Order with your Name on it.

You can scan this to me by E-mail. Please make sure that your order number is included on your scanned E-mail. Or you can call me and submit to a voice recognition scan.

Once I have received these documents they will be used confidentially with the utmost discretion. I appreciate your understanding on this subject matter, as I am a concerned individual that feels the need to protect myself against the harsh realities of Online Retailing.

If it is possible do not call me, (only if you send your id's by fax), it is easier for you and for me to keep in touch by e-mail and do not forget to write your tax-id number on all paperwork.

Regards

ps:
you have got to be kidding me .... you want my passport/phone bill etc..? give me a break. how do i know that you wont just go and give whomever this info...I went through yall cause a friend recommended yall and had order fom yall in the past, but this is ridiculous.

so here is a question for all yall out there has anyone seen this type of crap before?
it smells foul to me , almost like it could be a some sort of sting by dave...why the hell do they need that .. i mean yes there is a problem with online fraud and they are justified in trying to reduce there chances of fraud however asking for this info has got to decline their chnces of actually selling anything.

You've got to be kidding me...I've ordered a few things from different companies..Via Paypal, credit card etc...And never would i give all that out...You're right , something smells rotten in Denmark.
Methinks you should run over to the dealer and individual scams forum and take a look around...Also any dealers should reply to see if everyone is heading this way??? I think not..

after a quick search i discover that this company was raided a couple of weeks ago a couple of days after i made my original order.... this could consitute a problem for me and others...

do you think it could be the athorities trying to gain personal info to make arrests..... ? if they never shipped me any equipment i am not guilty of anything as far as I am concerned... except for intent ,, but my intent was to use these things an drink coasters and door stops.

btw if a admin or mod wants the name of the company i will give it to them, so they can do further investigation. i just dont want any bad publicity to go to a company(or me for that matter) or cause any problems that might cause them to get mad at me and turn me in or somethign along those lines ...

CDW tried to pull some similar bull---- with me the first time I placed an order with them. They wanted me to FAX them my driver's licence and credit card. I told them to ---- off and placed an order with a different vendor which has more respect for its customers. I recommend everyone steer clear of CDW unless they enjoy being treated like a criminal...
