HI all,

I picked up an expressview IRD about 6 months ago from my grandfather who was going back to cable. He had cancled his sub so I was gonna hook it up and maybe sub in the winter or something

Anyway, I setup the dish and reciever, and get a signal, to my suprise, all the channels still worked?!!!?

so I did what everyone else would have done.. I watched a PPV, then called bell to tell them what was going on.. The guy on the other end said "oh that happens sometimes" don't worry about it, the unit will stop working "sooner or later" and to see what its like before I subscribe in the winter.

Its been 6+ months now and it's still functioning, I don't really use it that much, but its on all the time, and its still recieving programming.. wierd..I spoke to my grandfather to make 100% sure he wasn't still getting billed for it, and he isnt.. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

I think what happened is that the reciever/card were disconnected when they sent down the "end of service" packet... this used to happen with DTV, too, before they did blacklisting. People who'd unplugged their IRDs before unsubscribing, then left them in the closet for 6mo-1yr (they sent down the EOS packet for ~6mo, IIRC), then plugged them back in or gave them away, found that they still had their old package working.

This has happened to me also. When I cancelled my service with BEV, I unhooked my IRD. I tried it out a few weeks later, and it still worked. It worked for a few months until I sold my IRD. I have no idea how long it stayed active. I think that the technoligy used by BEV is rather simple compared to Dave

My Uncles buddy is quite active in the summer time (ranches/farms, etc) and have no time for TV at all. So they don't SUB in the summer months, and cancel their SUB. And same thing, he unpugged/disconnected it for the summer and when the slow winter (for him) rolled along and he hooked it back up, he had everything without subbing.

I think you're all right that BEV does not have the technology to disable a temp UNsubbed card OR does not want to go thru the hassle of mailing another out every 6 months.
