Speaking of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, many of the sponsors are openly expressing regret for initially supporting the bill. Rep. Zoe Lofgren(who voted for the bill) remarked at a panel sponsored by Cato Institute, "I think we have had a very wide set of anti-technology rules emerging from the courts." The Consumer Electronics Association, which also initially endorsed the bill, did a bit of hand-wringing too. Of the DMCA, CEA President Gary Shapiro said, "We signed off on it, and it was a huge mistake." No comments or sweeping plans were discussed to reign in the bill, however. Maybe they'll take on that one at the next meeting.
