Hi to all who help me so much in this forum,
I am the one of those who really can't afford the lawyer fee. I thought maybe someone can help me to write a non-incrimanating letter to DTV that I did not purchase these products to pirate free TV, which I really didn't. I purchase them to learn the smartcard tech, i was told before I went to class I needed a iso programmer and few emulation boards so I don't have to re-program the cards. I need help to write this letter since I don't have the extra money to hire a lawyer to do this. I did get advise from Mr. Z's Andrea. What she had told me was 2 options. Pay dtv to settle or pay Mr. Z to defend you which will cost more than dtv's settlement. I have no money for them at all. So, I thought maybe some of you might able to help me write this letter. thanks so much and good luck to all with the same problem.....If you need, you can pm me....thanks

I would be surprised if any type of letter to DTV would end the lawsuit. I'm sure they have heard many excuses on why the equipment was purchased.
Good luck

do you have proof of this class? an official transcript from the registrar, and a syllabus from the class, or a letter from the teacher stating that you needed to purchase these things would probably get DTV off your back. of course, if you have none of these, then DTV will assume its a BS excuse, which they have probably heard a lot of, and the letter will be damaging since you will admit to buying the stuff.

Well said jones!
Most of us receiving these letters are just that, little guys.
Admit to nothing, but acknowledge receipt of your letter. Continually place the ball back in the court of dave's outsourced law firm. Drag this thing out for as long as possible and don't give a red cent to anybody until you actually get summoned to court (which is likely to NEVER, EVER happen to you as a little guy.
And as for the class action route, leave that to the bigger fish to fight...Those who have a record of possibly making money off this hobby. As a little guy, I wouldn't want my name grouped with anybody I did not personally know.
...and no, I'm not a mole as someone humorously suggested earlier ;-)
I simply believe that your best defense against dave is to legitimize that dish on your roof. If you're not paying for basic, then why the hell would you have a DTV dish on your roof? ...Talk about incriminating evidence :gg

Damn...I meant to post my reply to a different thread starter.
I love the pirate's den, it has the best info floating around. But why is it everytime I preview or hit submit I have to re-login?
Is there a three-minute time-out or something?
I end up drafting my reply, click to submit, get error message that I'm not logged in, I login, I cut and paste my previous draft to new reply screen and submit. It's kind of a pain...Anybody care to shed some light on why this is?
edit: Thanks BigCat! it's my blocking of cookies of course!!! so obvious I overlooked it.
:end edit
...I'm clicking to submit now (after copying my words to my clipboard of cours ;-)

You need to go into tools>Internet Options> Security and low your settings, you are blocking your cookies feature which is why your are getting that problem. Change your settings to MEDIUM and you should be OK.

Thats good advice. Do not call or write them. Get legal assistance if possible. Most will find themselves in over there heads as they play this game every day.

If you are really that poor, why don't you check to see if there is a legal-aid office in your city? Maybe they could help you.
