Warning - Greatest HU scam of all time, everyone must read this

I know that you usually dont put scams on this board but this is a brutal new scam that reaches to the very depths of all of our testing fears.

I have met alot of fellow testers, most of them good, and a few, as I have just found out, not so good. A tester that I have known for several years and thought to be a good guy, confided in me tonight about a scam that him and a few others are portraying. They asked me to join in with them, I refused even though they have managed in under 1 month to rake in over $75,000 dollars and Hundreds of HU cards, and alot of equipment.

Here is how the scam works. They are trying to recruit one person from each state to obtain a PO Box. They then sell HU cards to people on many sites (I do not know if they have been here yet). They collect the money for the HU cards and send them out, no problem. They take your info, address and what you order and they modify a DAVE letter to send to the customer. They say they are such and such attorneys and that they represent Direct TV, they tell you they know that you have illegally ordered HU cards and they say they will prosecute unless you settle. Hell, they are even able to tell you how many HU cards you got and when. They say Direct TV will settle for $1,500 dollars and all illegal HU cards and equipment sent to them. In return, Direct Tv will forgo ANY AND ALL future prosecution.
I'm sure all of you know how crazy some of these people are getting about the DAVE letters. If all they have to do is send $1,500 and the equipment for full absolution, how many people will take this deal. Quite a few I am guessing. After I got off the phone with this guy, it made me sick to my stomach that someone I knew and trusted would do this for a few bucks. Ok alot of few bucks, but still. I know the guy as ro*******ly, but he said he uses several different names on all sites. He cant be caught because no one knows it is him doing it. He doesnt screw you in the sale, only after it. I would suggest that if you get a Dave letter shortly after buying anything on the web and the settlement is too good to turn down, you maybe getting scammed. The letters are sent out certified and everything. They look real. It appears these guys are very good at this and have thought it out completely before starting it. So watch out!
