Hi Fuzzball,
In fact you get the honor of getting Scott Wilsdon who is DirecTV™ main lawyer for everything to do with piracy. He basically spends all his time with DirecTV™ related work.http://www.legal-rights.org/images/ttrk.gif

Boy do I feel special.. Have been waiting for the summons as I declined there offer to settle for $3500. Better to spend the funds on fighting than rolling over.
DTV even added a "If you want to settle now" letter with the summons. Real Cute.
Got an Attorney name from Legal-Rights.org. Shall retain.
Also called DTV and canceled my sub. Dish is cheaper anyway.

Hi Fuzzball,
Good man. The least anyone who gets one of these threatening letters and who is innocent should do is cancel their DirecTV™ sub. Dish will give you one free when you give them a DirecTV™ dish in exchange I believe.
I have difficulty understanding how ANYONE who gets this ltter can retain their DirecTV™ sub afterwards. Why reward a company who does this type of thing to thank you for your business. Its a hell of a way for them to thank you for being a customer.
If they are sending out 100,000 letters and they lose 60,000 customers, they will not make anything since a sub adds about $2000 to $2500 or more to the companies value. Just divide the 26 billion dollar price by their 10 million customers gives you their value per subscriber of about $2600.00.http://www.legal-rights.org/images/ttrk.gif
How many of you got the letter and cancelled your sub. And a BIG clap to you for that. At least you are taking what ever action you are able to since they have priced their settlement to be cheaper than fighting them to put you on the spot. Seems quite unfair.
The P3 card is a VERY advanced card to hack and DirecTV™ just took a lawsuit against a major supplier who did hack a couple of other cards according to some witnesses. Isn't it time that the right people weremade to pay for making this card so trivial to hack. It was no kid in a basement who did that and even though they have been batteling for some 4 years now, they are still not after the right people with any non blocked law suit.
Maybe its time to go after the guilty parties.

Actually, he doesn't spend ALL of his time working for DTV....I was almost impressed when I saw his representation of this client:
Ruling questions protected use of the name 'Windows'
Saturday, March 16, 2002
By DAN RICHMAN
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
Windows, one of the best-known trademarks in the world, may not be a name Microsoft Corp. can own and use exclusively, a federal judge ruled yesterday.
In a narrow, preliminary ruling that could change at trial, Chief U.S. District Judge John Coughenour wrote that there are "serious questions regarding whether 'Windows' is a non-generic name and thus eligible for the protections of federal trademark law."
He made the ruling in a case Microsoft brought against Lindows.com Inc., a 6-month-old San Diego start-up trying to introduce an operating system called Lindows.
The software giant sought a preliminary injunction against Lindows.com Inc. to halt the smaller company's use of the name Lindows before a full trial.
But the judge denied the injunction, saying Microsoft hadn't demonstrated that it's likely to win the trial.
A trial date could be set Tuesday, probably 12 to 18 months from now, said Scott Wilsdon, a Seattle attorney representing Lindows.
At the least, yesterday's ruling means Lindows can continue using the name for now, Wilsdon said.
"It's a significant victory for a small company trying to make its way in the world," he said.
More generally, it may mean anyone can begin using the Windows name on their products. But that right could end abruptly if Microsoft wins at trial.
The case is the first time Microsoft's claim on the exclusive right to use "Windows" as a product name has been challenged since the company began using it, in 1983.
Microsoft said in a prepared statement, "We are disappointed with the ruling, but we intend to pursue our claim to protect our trademark."

And therin lies the clue. DTV is ticking off those that have an inkling towards dancing on the edge. I personally have encourage three others to cancel their DTV sub and go with DISH. Its economics, single room system is $150 with a $12.50 credit off the bill of $22.99 per month for 12 months. I spilt the initial cost 50/50 and they only pay $10.49 per month for one year. I have two more in the works and that will be it for me.
My out of pocket $375.00,
The gain by switching to DISH over DTV $258.00 per unit,
The loss to DTV $13,000 PRICELESS,
So for those who can spare a little of your play money, roll your friends and neighbors over to DISH.
