I have the Hughes hd hird-e86 and I have performed the Mod whereupon we solder on either the red or green phone wire a 1.uF 250v Radio Shack part 272-1055
Well it works, sort of...
I am subbed with the Caller I.D. with Name feature with my Phone Company Based in Canada, and when an incoming call does come in, the only informative info that I get is the message...
<b>Out of local area</b> (uh... something to that liking, but I am calling locally)
I have performed the system test and everything checks out like it should. I.O.W. the phone line test fails, obviously, because of the capacitor.
Also, I have tried with the capacitor removed from the phone line and it too when an incoming call comes in gives me the very same message... <Out of local area>
So, in a nutshell, I can't see WHO it is that is Calling, but rather just being informed of an incoming call...
Anybody know how to rectify this problem...
Thanks.

It did work for a while. But I just noticed that it has stopped working. I called myself using my cell and no CID. It is enabled on the ird but nothing shows up anymore. Weird.

I think the type of phone numbers is one issue, and the type of system causes another issue..
i.e. My echostar 6000 on bev works great, but no name show if I use my cell phone.
It's my Directv Hughes receiver that doesn't work at all... hence, I think the fact the area code is not USA that trigger the out of area and does not show number as well... Is there a way to edit the internal area codes on either the receiver or HU card or something???

There is no written 1-2-3 step by step process because it is too easy!!!
Just read the first few lines from my post and you will know what part is needed and all you have to really do is place the capacitor "in between the red or green wire coming from your telephone line to your receiver telephone input"
Do a system test to be sure your satellite receiver fails the phone line test and you are good to go...
I believe the trouble I am having with the DTV Hughes is the fact I am not IN the USA and therefore the area code in my region flags an "out of area" response.
My Dish receiver testing the other echostar carrier works 100%...

Usually the "Out of Area" message is a default when no CCID data is sent or the unit (phone or what ever) can not understand the data sent to it. I have the same CCID system that you do (name & number display) and one of my phones (probably made for the US market) will only show caller ID when I get a name and number, when I only get a number is shows "Out of area". On the other hand, I have a DRD440 (RCA 5th gen DSS) with a disabled modem and caller ID still connected and it has no problems at all. There are several different types of CCID data and the early types didn't seem to be compatable between the US and Canada. Your IRD might just be using an older standard.
This isn't a solution, but I hope it helps. :)
