Don't let him in the house.

Just kidding. I have a part chihauha that has denied any kind of training I have tried. If it can't get in the house it gets on the back porch. Can't stand to use it in the grass.

I had a kitten once that would scratch on a chair all the time. It drove me crazy so when he did it, I would throw his a$$ outside, trying to teach him not to do it. For the next 10 years, until he died, everytime he wanted out he would scratch on that chair. Seems he trained me instead of the other way around. I miss ol Pickles:(

For dogs you have to take them out ALOT so they get used to going outside. I don't think putting his nose in it will help, you have to catch them in the act. You could try getting a cage to keep him in when inside since they will not do it where they sleep.

Crate training is the best way. This makes him hold it and then you always have to let him out the same door when he is allowed to go outside and do it there. Eventually he will put it all together and know that outside is where he can do it right.

I have two rottweilers who have successfully been trained this way. However if he is a male then it will be natural for him to start marking his territory, inside and outside. This you gotta catch as soon as you can and show him what he did and then proceed to swat him a few times with a rolled up newspaper wrapped in tape. The noise scares them. If you don't stop that fast enough even neutering him will not work. Trust me I asked the vet.
