The funny thing about the cover page article in USA Today is that it will do more to create new pirates than those letters will do to stop pirates.

Q: "Where did you learn how to pirate Directv?"
A: "USA Today"

I remember 2600 being a target of lawsuits because they linked to DeCSS software. Any chance Directv will go after USA Today for providing links?

good point, what they have done is a clear violation of the dmca... especially the active links on their website to known pirate sites... not very smart IMO

Hughes going after USA Today (Gannett)? With the DMCA it is possible.

Here's a story of DeCSS (http://www.allenwood.org/essays/decss.html)

Dave can't handle the truth. The truth will expose dave by educating the public. Dave relies on misinformation to help in the success of his letter campaign. If dave really wanted to make an example out of someone he would make an example out of at least one prominent individual in the media's eye. He won't. Dave could go after many prominent end-users if he wanted, but to lose in court for all the world to see would really open up this hobby to anyone and everyone.
Dave could have used O.J. as an example, but he didn't. Something to think about ;)
