i just got my hd receiver and hooked it up to a round dish...(my oval is going up this weekend) and i recieve channel 509 which is hbo hd....but without the oval dish is it really hd...because the picture is clearer then the other channels but not like you see in the stores...are the sat 101..110..119 used to share bandwidth or are they just for other channels. i hope i am explaining this correctly..

the Sats A,B, & C are used for different channels. Adding other satellite locations to your dish won't help your picture quality at all. I *believe* HBOHD and HDNET have been moved over to the 101 birds recently, which is why you can get them with a standard dish. The bird at Sat C holds SHOHD, and it requires the special "sat c" lnb to operate.
As far as the picture quality, it's been my experience that some of the movies on HBOHD are really pretty crappy quality, especially compared to the likes of HDNET.
Hope this helps!

Actually HBO-HD & Showtime-HD are upconverted to 1080I. HD-NET, however, has an excellent, true 1080I picture. I've also been able to see some OTA reception of NBC & CBS and have to say that it's better than HBO-HD & Showtime-HD. It's too bad that all HD channels couldn't have the resolution of HD-NET. The only down side to HD-NET is the lack of 5.1DD audio.
