The PPV HD channel is great news, however they have to get their hands on more then just 3 movies.....It is unfortunate that they only show New Line Cinema movies in HD. This is not a bash....trust me I am very happy to be able to see HD PPV all day rather then only at 2AM!!!!!!!

Thanks,

I agree...Goldmember looked pretty badass in HD, but that's the only movie I care to see...More variety would definately be appreciated!!

ESPN-HD yes... Bad News.. ESPN is enabling the Copy Protection Flag voluntarily (sp?..LOL). What does this mean??? Means if you dont have what I preached months ago...ya are screwed...LOL

Only the sets with HDCP enabled will get ESPN-HD in full HD, the older STBs and TVs will only get in 480p.

Also being rumored that starting with the regualr MLB season, there will be some HD games, but the HDCP flag will be enabled on those too..

Were did you hear they would be flaging the content? When I spoke to the rep's at CES they told be direct tv had no intention of turning on the flags, besides if they did that over 80%of HD views would not be able to view it.... I totally belive that its just a rumor...

I will find the press release later on today... and post a link. Its ESPN that is requiring the flag to be turned on, so I dont think Dave will have much of a choice... The MLB thing hasnt been fully confirmed yet, but does come from a good source on mine.... But agian the ESPN was announced in a press release by ESPN...so I would say that if Dave is gonna carry it, he wont have much choice but to turn the flag on...

Here is the way the current flag works...

The flag basically controls the resolution. If the flag is enabled, and it hits a STB without HDCP, then resolution comes out as 480p (still a HD standard), if it comes through a box with HDCP, then it is out in the signal native's resolution (720p, 1080i) whatever they are using...

So its not that the older boxes wont get ESPN-HD, its just they will get it in 480p.. which agian is still a HD standard.. that is how they are gonna get by using HDCP in the idustry...

Ok... Directv doesnt wanna play with the HDCP flag huh??

How come they are testing it on 201. If you have one of the new zenith/Samsung/Sony with the HDCP port, and a TV with it.. flip to 201.

This is the on screen message you will get if your TV isnt HDCP compliant.

"This program is not available for viewing using the DVI monitor without HDCP capability. you may be able to view this program using a different connector and removing the DVI connector"

If you do have picture with the HDCP port, then you are getting Tanya in 1080i ya lucky SOB...hehehehe

The rest of us only get to see her in SD... :(

Have a new Sony 200HD receiver properly wired and receiving all the HD channels. Monitor is the 36XBR w/o DVI and on Ch. 201, I receive 480i, not 1080.

New HDTV for Christmas. I just put up a 3LNB dish yesterday. I thought I'd get a lot more than 4 channels. I didn't know Discovery was only HD on Dish. I thought NASA was HD, but it's not. Hey, I'm a subscriber. I'm getting ripped. By the way, did you folks notice the difference between OTA HD football on CBS versus Fox? CBS looked great. Fox was so crappy, I had to wonder if was really HD or some kind or reprocessed NTSC. If Murdoch buys DTV, we're all in trouble.

CBS does football in 1080i, FOX does it in 480p, if I remember correctly..
