Basically here is my problem. I have a Hughes E86 HD receiver running into the HD hookups on AV4, on my TV. The other HD input is DVI (AV5). My DVD player has progressive scan and I need to hook it up to a HD input to benefit the better picture quality. Here is the problem, neither the E86 or the Philips Q35 dvd, has these DVI plugs, only the tv does. How can I solve this problem? I would like to have both plugged in at the same time and with the press of the button switch from one to the other. Moving wires, all the time, would suck :( .

Do they make a G/Y, R/Pr, B/Pb to DVI connector? Or is this just wishful thinking?

Interesting problem! I have an E86 and a Phillips 55PP9352 HDTV. The AV5 input is a DB15 connector like a computer monitor. Is this what yours calls DVI input? Is the progressive scan feature of your DVD really that much better? I have my DVD hooked up through the CVI inputs AV2. The picture is really good. If you can't find the adaptor you suggested I would look at upgrading my AV reciever to one that has multiple HD inputs, so you can use it to switch between the Sat and DVD.

On another thing... The phillips HDTV has a nice feature when viewing standard 4.3 format. It auto sizes the picture using a combination of cropping and stretching the picture to fill the screen. However, when using the HD inputs (1080i) this feature is not there and relies on the E86's sizing control which is either cropped or stretched. So I end up useing (460i) on the reciever and running through a s-video hookup to the TV when not watching HD broadcasts to get the better picture sizing offered on the TV.

Most people use a stereo receiver as a selector device for input video source.

Most high end stereo receivers have this capability.

elkhntr33,

Yes the progressive scan does give a better picture, the picture seems cleaner. I did hook up the dvd to AV1, (CVI). With progressive scan off, its fine. When I turn the progressive scan ON, its a scrambled picture. Like watching a pay channel on cable that you dont get. But the audio is fine. I called Philips and the woman told me that there is a component to DVI (DB15) cable and Rat Shack carries it. Can find it anywhere.

Make a few calls. Philips lied to me. They dont make a connector like that. What I need is a A/V receiver like mmmmkaaay posted.

Lesson learned.

Thanks

Can anyone reccomend a A?V receiver? I dont want to be limited to connections like my TV.
