View Full Version : Toshiba DST3000 Nightmare!

I bought it off eBay. About every day, the picture goes black, then a "searching for satellite" message. No readings on any of the three satellite strength meters. Unplug the receiver. Plug it back in. All three meters up to the top. I do not believe there was a loss of signal at all. It scans for all the available signals, satellite and OTA. Takes a few minutes. All channels back. Then I have to re-edit my guide (favorite A) list. "Clear All" does not clear half the music channels. That has to be done manually. Is DTV messing with my card? Did I buy a bogus receiver? Is this shutdown some sort of update the receiver is trying but failing to get from the data stream? I'm stymied. Thanks.

I agree...No problems here for over a year.

Thanks for your replies. Two other things: Channel 340 keeps adding itself to my favorites list every day by itself, and the S-video does not put out a signal.

I also have DST3000 and it has been running great for over a year...it sure looks like you got a bad receiver even though you got it on Ebay i would call Toshiba they are really good to deal with tell them your problems they may have a fix by pushing different keys at worst i would ask about sending it in to get it fixed

Toshiba had an update for units like yours. Sent mine in and two days later had a different unit and it has been working great for over a year.

What kind of update? Did it involve local channel reception? Mine's still kinda flaky with that.

it was a software update that was actually sent from Direct TV to the reciever it screwed up alot of people and Toshiba was taken them back and send out other receivers (DST3000 but with a different serial#)later direct tv sent down a fix ......the problem was with the guide you would lose it and then have to shut down and hope you got it back when it didn't come back ..thats when you needed to send it in for a swap you can check to see if you got the correct update by going to the menu...then ..setup menu....installation......system test
you should see version 5099.0 if thats what you got you should be good to go

Mine is now 5099.0 which is different than it was 2 days ago. Funny, last two day -- keep my fingers crossed -- it's worked fine. Fine but for one thing. Other than the component out, I get no other video (or audio) from any of the output jacks on the back. i.e. no video from the S-jack or from the composite outs. I get audio from the one set of jacks associated with the component video out. Is there some software that enables the other output jacks in the back? Thanks.

I don't believe there are any software updates for the other audio or video setups.....but i would check the way you have it connected
if you have other devises connected vcr dvd ect. i would disconnect them also remove the component cables and optical audio cable and start by going directly to the TV
1) connect from the DST one set of cables the Left, Right and Video to the TV
2) on your TV you will need to set it to the Video input to match the connection (Video1, Video2, ect ) i think this maybe where you are having the problem, that should give you video and audio
3) connect the S-video cable to the same set of inputs on the TV that you connected the other cables to.
if that works you can start to connect the other components but remember you need to match the Video input on the TV with the configuration you are trying to run DVD normally is component cables, vcr S-video cables ect. both should have a different Video setting on your tv
i hope this helps it can be a little confusing to try and explain

I've just bought 2 DST 3000s. $425 each with a HU! Seemed like a good deal until my 1st unit took the 5099 update. Now it refuses to load the advanced guide and automatically reboots itself every 2 minutes. I left it unplugged for a day and it loaded the guide and worked for about 10 minutes. It then started reseting and attempting to load the guide again. I unplugged my second unit before its scheduled update time. Don't know what to do.

cmwoody -- Mine has now run three days since it took the 5099.0 undate. I don't know if yours says .0... Anyway, why not hang with it a little longer? I'll post again if mine screws up again.
skeetshooter -- Everything was hooked up okay. Had to be because I tried everything like you suggested. So today I press "Action" then "HD/SD Input" and I get a picture out of the S-video. It seems to be an either/or switch, meaning when I get a picture from the S-video, I don't get one from the component connections and vica-versa.

If your Tosh is the same as the Hughes E86 it will not produce video to multiple outputs when in the HD/componet out. From your remote select Action and HD/SD to toggle between HiDef and Standard video. In SD all video outputs will work with the exception of HD.

Thanks HaHa and Skeetshooter for the tips. I'm sending one dst3000 back to toshiba and I'm worried about the other. The first unit kept resetting w/o loading the advanced guide. The other takes about 4 minutes to load the guide and now seems to be resetting after it is loaded and working for about a minute or so. Is it supposed to take that long to load the guide? Its just been doing that for about 15 minutes though. So there, back to the drd420s. I've tried resetting, unplugging, checking cables, etc. Guess I got a couple of lemons.

loading the giude can take 4 or 5 min.s.... does the meter show it loading? if so near the end of the load it should get faster and finish. you say "Its just been doing that for about 15 minutes though." after the 15 min what does it do? does the guide stay or go away? every time i unplug mine or get any power outage it resets the guide so that part is normal

Thanks Skeetshooter for the feedback. It had been cycling through the guide, loading it, and I could watch tv for about 2-3 minutes and then it would reload the guide and do it all over. It had been doing it for about 15 minutes at the time of my post. It kept doing it till I unplugged it. Still does it so I'm sending it back to toshiba. Funny thing is that it had the firmware update scheduled, but now says no firmware update scheduled. Running on 5046 so it says. I think it may have partially ytook it and it screwed it up like my other DST3000. These things are great when they work!

Thanks Skeetshooter, I really appreciate it. I'm really going to miss Anna Kournikova on HDTV. I hope your right about the 2 weeks. I'll let you know how it goes.
