View Full Version : Will all Hughes E86 receivers accept HU cards?

I've been looking for a HDTV receiver and have decided on the Hughes E86. However, after reading posts on this receiver in the discussion forums, I am unsure whether all E86's accept HU cards because of mixed results people had have in getting HU cards to work in these receivers.

I have two purchase options. One, where the vendor has tested the E86 with an HU card and another, where the vendor has not tested it with an HU card. The non-tested receiver is the better deal. Any suggestions?

On a related question. Could the E86 stop accepting the HU cards after a P4 card has been inserted? Perhaps there's some update to the receiver softwear after the P4 card has been used.

Cowboy is right. all e86s will work with hu & p4. my e86 came with p4 no problems here, but that not saying that in the future dtv wony come up with a reciever update to lock out hu's if you have inserted p4 in stream. just speculation.

Thanks for your help.

Is the reason why some E86 owners have had problems using HU cards more related to not understanding how to use the receiver? As opposed to any software (firmware?) upgrade that occurs if an P4 card is temporarily inserted in the reciever?

If that's the case, it sounds like I may be better off in getting the receiver package (dish included) that has not been tested with an HU card rather than just getting the receiver that has been tested with an HU card. The receiver package being at a better price than just the receiver.

You can switch the P3 and P4 in an E86 (Mits sr5, Tosh 3000) to your hearts content, as long as you reboot the IRD between switches...
They will work fine.
