Ok I finaly took the plunge and ordered a Hatachi 65SWX20B

Now I need to get some HDTV into my house

1) I'm using an HU card with activation
---- I read that the Hughes E86 is what to get (i.e works with HUs)

2) Do I need an eliptical dish? One place says yes the other says no.
----- I have a oval dish with single LNB now

3) Once I buy this E86 I don't need to buy a HDTV decoder (right?)
------- The TV has an upconverter (which still dosent look that great)

Thanks Guys for taking a look and helping me clarify :)

1. Yes, the e-86 will work with both

2. If you want to get ALL the hdtv channels, you will need the oval dish with 3 lnb's

3. You are correct, the e-86 is a hdtv decoder as well as an up converter.

You may want to get an ota antenna as well to pick up your locals
in hdtv

Thanks crzy!

hmmm... I live in an area where you can't get SD locals by antena.

I thought that DTV would broadcast HD locals (fox, cbs, nbc, etc.)?

No, your locals are only broadcast by your local stations (digitally received by an ota antenna)

I just bought the same Hitachi set and the E86 IRD. You'll need the Sat C kit if you want all 4 (yep, that's it) HDTV channels from Dave. 198 is PPV, 199 is HDNet, 509 is HBO and Showtime is like 526 or something, but you need the third, "special" LNB to get that one, it is only like $50, and I hear Dave will send it to you for shipping costs. A OWA will run you $300 - $700, depends on if you need a rotor and amplifier, including the installation.

Hey also have the same hitachi tv Man are you going to love it. As for the oval dish just spend the $100 and get the one with the 3LNB's and the multiswitch built in. It is so easy to install. Also I HIGHLY recommend spending the money on the really good component cables. YES they really do make a difference.
Thanx

Almost there... TV not due for another week. My friend is going to order one too. So were both going to go back in and see if we could get a better price if we buy 2! Since mine has not shipped yet I'm going to return and rebuy.

I've been trying to find the E86 for under $500 with the 3lnb. The closest I could find was a place in Florida (orlando / miami) area that had them for around $300 not incl 3lnb. I'm waiting to see if they will ship to me.

They needed me to fill out paperwork that I was a current subscriber - so I asked if they can send it to me - rather than walk into the store (which is over 2kmiles from NY).

If not flea-bay here I come. rrrrr!! so much $$

Radio Shack is closing out the RCA DTC100 Hd receiver. Here is the store code # for it 1625 66. Original price was $599 now the close out price is $199. Won't find a better receiver for the money.

luvtowin you are the BEST!!!!

I have a spot in my will for you :)

I spent the morning calling every shack in the area.. Some had them in, but wouold not sell them (they said they were recalled from RCA - other stores said that the last batch was defective. Some stores would not sell because they were missing the card etc...)

So around 2pm I called the last store on my list and They HAD IT!! It was a floor model, it worked and had a card.

So I drove 4hrs round trip snagged one with HU, no box or paper work, and a remote (but I don't think it is the right one - becaue I think the remote should be RF not IR and this one does not work in another room)

Ok - This next weekend is installing the 3LNB dish ( I hope it is easy - any tips? )

How do you switch HU cards in this model. I tested the card they gave me and it gets the 100 and says "this card is expired"

When I went to put my HU card in it says "this is not the correct card please replace with old card" or something to that nature. It must remember the cam ID from the one card and refuse to accept another HU until it is reset. (It's unplugged now so I hope that resets the box)

There is a feature in the menu to "Change Card" But I don't want to play with that until I checked with one of you guys (That and I don't have the manual and don't know what it will do)

Thanks :)

Generally just unplugging it will not do it. Do a soft reboot by pressing the power and arrow down buttons simultaneously on the unit itself until the unit turns off. This will unmarry the receiver. Then you're going to have to unmarry your HU card in Extreme,etc.....

Yup! looks like my card is married to my other rcvr. I just have to get this other card to read :( rrrrrrr!

and then I can leave it in the RCA 100.

Thanks
