View Full Version : Why is it ???

Maybe a rep from directv or dishnetwork can explain this to me... cuz maybe im blind but i see no reasoning behind it. [/Rant] :)

First we got dtv who used access card piracy to gain a market share. they couldn't control the piracy afterwards and now has to use tax payers money from canada as well as the us to fight for their signal integrety. In other industries we improve upon security to fix this problem not use duties payed to another goverment to help us fight our piracy problems. You want signal security here in canada give us the option to buy it. Instead you pay a cow of a woman to help you get this by and then tell me what i can and can not watch. i don't know about you people but I live in canada not the Republic of China

Next thing we will all be monitored to make sure we don't surf to american websites as well. I am tired of seeing business's raided because they sell equipment with 100 other uses besides satellite piracy. beside of course for the dealers who do bev and piracy of video games and such they should be raided... if the company has a presence in canada and pays duties then canada should go to bat for them. If they do not pay taxes and only buy politicians we as a country should not help them. It's their problem not mine nor my neighbors.

Why is it my duties go towards supporting directv's fight for signal integrety ??? Because they have paid into this appointed persons pocket ??? Come on, this country long stood beside the us in fight against much bigger things then satellite piracy and it should stand that way. While i don't endorse satellite piracy in any way from a company who has the ability to collect on it ie. bev. I feel my duties are wasted on some thing of this stature.

The problem is people get into goverment positions like Shiela our lovely "representative" of our country. So they can take bribes and money from companies outside Canada. In europe between countries a big deal is never made. They simply step up security on their systems. Why is it any different in north america. Can't we for once instead of buying out our competitors because we have more money actually try and compete. Everything a hacker wants is available on the internet.... does this mean we are to filter our net access as well.

If some one can explain to me why these are things are Canada's problem please feel free to :

1) Directv's signal integrety
2) Dishnetworks Signal (not so much here very few things are done by them but they do make a good solid conditional access system nagra is a smart developer)
3) What we watch on tv.

and for #3 heres another small rant:

If your a parent and you don't monitor what your child watches you are a bad parent. It is neither the goverment or your neighbors job to watch your children and watch for things they watch on tv. If you have done that poorly of a job raising your child that they don't know the difference between right and wrong or pretend and reality, then you my friend have been a bad parent... End of my rant... After seeing this dribble in the papers it really does make me utterly disguisted...

If i pissed ya off let me know cuz i'd like to talk to you about why this country is what it is.

Eddie only had two things on his mind. The left fist, and the right fist

If it's any consolation I know someone that works for Shiela...not really a friend....it is really atrocious with what they do there in that dept.....most of the summer is consumed by golfing...and I jab him about her evertime I get a chance....;)

what you are advocating,, and the references used. One point you make is that the laws are wrong because of the way they came about... (good point),, BUT... on the other hand.. If you have done that poorly of a job raising your child that they don't know the difference between right and wrong or pretend and reality, then you my friend have been a bad parent.

Watching DTV/DISH is illegal (in Canada),, therefore it is 'wrong' not 'right'. Watching DTV in Canada is breaking the law,, and breaking the law is wrong (whether or not you agree with that law, it is still the standing law and therefore it is wrong to break that law)...

In reality,, there is no grey area there,, if you do it, you're wrong, if you don't you're right... so.. is your child now right or wrong,, and.. does he/she know the difference??

Many have often said it's a hobby, it's a game etc etc... it's not.. it's illegal in both countries, and if you break the law,, you can presumably expect law enforcement to do something, eventually...

by far my children know its wrong and understands why it's wrong. i have switched from dishnetwork to bev. i just feel that we should not be responsible for other peoples children.. after all i read threw the reasons she gave and most were very difficult to understand why it should be illegal.

with nothing to do in this weather but watch tv with our time we don't work what are we gonna do when hockey is over ??

kidding about the hockey part... i know it's wrong and i have set aside my dish units until they can get this threw again.

This also means that c band dishes are illegal as well. I got one of those as well so now I can't use that as well. But i can swap in all my stuff to bev and have them resell it to others. so now i only have "approved" channels on my tv. Well time to get dsl and start streaming media maybe i'll find some thing more usefull as soon as hockey is over im turning off my accounts and just gonna get that real streaming nhl when they are on. And watch free to air tv channels. Which have to be from canada.

I say we take a page from the world and let the companies deal with thier own problems, not force our citizens to comply to some companies demands that are not even from this country.

I see an easy way to seriously decrease the hacking and promotion od DTV in canada.Let BEV sell the programming that the people want to see, namly the DTV lineup of variety and movie chanels. Why does the comunist, opps,I mean canadian government have so much control over what we as canadian citizens are "allowed" to watch on TV?If we are to only watch "Canadian" programming on TV,will this spread to music? To magazines?Maybe one day they will say shakespear is not "canadian" enough, and will be banned from literature courses in highschools and universities. Is this right?Personally I think its time for everyone that has an issue with this outright censorship to speak out.Write your MPs,explain what you want, and how it will affect your ballot in the next election.Somewhere along the line,I think we are supposed to have"Government for the people,by the people".

yes we are.. and this goverment has become to much about one person for themselves to line thier pockets. Our fore fathers never invisioned this garbage in our goverment. The companies need to work within the limits of thier goverment.

They pay off people so they can get their issues pushed into the goverment so they can increase their profits. We are slowly becoming the Republic of Canada and it stinks and i don't like it. I have written to my MP and i have said my piece many many more need to do this aswell. Some one who will stand up for us needs to run for goverment. But wait alas we are all at the bottom of the econimic chain so we don't have the money to run.

Don't throw out the c-band so quick....there was chipped vc2 boards siezed in one of the raids and they were given back....there may be an obvious reason for this being the government approved and is noted so in the early days of c-band that it was a viable source of programming for Canadians especially those in remote areas....if they decide to suddenly outlaw them that would mean they may have to compensate all c-band owners for the expenses...and we do know that they were not cheap to buy..I wrote to industry canada on this matter ..and much like the C.A.S.S.T. they decided not to return this taxpayers concerns....So far the c-band programmers are still up and running...I wonder if Bev realizes just how petty they are if they go after this venue..

I just checked out the lineup of Bell-VU….

1.All USA Networks, East & West…. (No NFL blackouts)
2.The US News & Commentary; CNBC, CNN, but need FOX News for me
3.Canadian Network Sports Coverage (live Olympics)

No antitrust laws to prevent the USA Networks from competing, via Bell Canada, with DAVE in the Sky….

Cost in Canadian $ .., any other Americans interested..I got a Canadian address.

The only reason (i think) the goverment have so much control in what is on tv ,is because before DTV and dish we didn't know what was available out there, now we know and now we are demanding better tv before we send them our money to cable or canadian satellites. The reasons many broadcaster are mad is because we are making them work to get us to suscribe to their product.
So lets keep on pushing and send our views to the goverment, before the only got the broadcaster point of view now they are getting ours.

The crtc has been up too alot of sh*t in the years. Before DTV was the big thing there was still cable. They would switch all the us feeds to cdn feeds making you watch cdn commmercials. For some of us sports fans this sometimes meant when the alloted time expired you would get switched over to the cdn feed sometimes making you miss overtime of a game etc. Speaking of a cow of a woman I noticed that Copps is entering her name for pm.

great just what we need. a nation run by a person who cares only for other nations. hell lets elect them maybe then we can lose all the rest of our rights.
