I know this is a DSS forum so if i'm out of line for bringing up another subject, i'm sorry. I saw an in-line filter that that you connect to the input side of a digital cable box and is supposed to enable all channels. It's called Digi-Vision digital cable descrambler. Has anyone heard of it and does it work? Just exploring different avenues for free tv.

never heard of it .
they put video scramblers on peoples lines when the person only has internet cable... it is like a silver tube that is inline and inside the cable box by the street or ally... maybe this is something that just undoes that and does not get you all the channels but just basic cable for free which is what you get if they never installed that silver cylinder in the first place....

also those cylinders you used to be able to boil in water and then reattached them and they would not filter anymore.

one more note... ripping of the cable companies is alot easier to get caught at... think about it you have a direct line attached to your house with Sattellite you dont.

I had an analog descrambler box for years and it opened up everything the cable had to offer. Now they went digital. With today's technology, there could be a way for them to detect that their signal was being hacked huh? I will wait and see how this product pans out with other people. Thanx for that info phoztech!

That sounds like one of the really old "descramblers" used even before the addressible boxes. The way they used to scramble a channel is to inject some High Frequency noise on the carrier frequncy of what ever channel they wanted to scramble. All you had to do to descramble it was insert a band reject filter and filter the noise frequency. If that is what you got, it will not work on digiatl cable. Actually, I don't think there will be any outside box add on type devices that will get ya digital cable. But, good luck. Let us know how it works out.

all that the in-line filters do is stop the cable company from communicating with your box. This will allow you to order the ppv events and the cable company won't know.....for awhile!!! Eventually they will change out your box and "dump" it's memory of everything that was ordered. You will then be charged for all of it. These filters do NOT work!!! Hope this helps....

dox is right. The filter that everyone is peddling is very dangerous. what it is basically, is you connect it to your digital cable box. and you can order as much programming as you like (kinda like activation script for digital cable), but unlike satellite you can't erase your purchases. the filter blocks all the purchase information (up to $200-300) and prevent it from sending it to the cable co. (thats how you get free programming) after you've exceed the purchasing limit the box is basically useless and the only way to remove it is to remove your filter which automatically sends all the past purchase you've accumulated to the cable co. – Most digital boxes provide constant two-way communication, enabling operators to easily determine whether the user is hooked to an authorized decoder and which channels it's allowed to unscramble.

I remember when the digital cable came around and blowed up my whole free cable movies deal!!
I dont think this digital cable thing will ever be hacked.

I believe thats when I started to look into the satellite industry.
Long live the DEN!!!

Another thing to remember is that the cable company knows exactly what equipment they have out there. Neox42 is totally correct, all the filter does is prevent the box from answering/talking to the cable provider. The company can easily send out queries to all their specific boxes and, after a couple attempts to talk to your box with no reply, they can simply send out a "shutdown permanently” command in the normal data stream (no filter can prevent this!) to the box in question. Then you’re done! All you can do is either pay for the equipment (say it was lost or stolen) or turn in the box and be charged for whatever PPV you ordered. Currently there is NO box or technique to get around digital cable fees. I see certain offerings that claim not to be filters and the such, but there is no way around the issue of the cable company shutting down your box when it finds that it can’t communicate with it anymore. By the way, it doesn’t have to be ON for this to occur; if it’s plugged in to power and the cable is hooked up, they can address it and shut it down.

I totally agree with whoever pointed out that cable is a direct TWO-WAY communication line running into your house and can be very dangerous to mess with. The good old days of free analog cable with the hot descramblers are, unfortunately, over.

There is a way to erase the memory from your box, I was told you
are supposed to do it about every 10 pay per views.
If you do this I guess you will be alright.
