A long time ago, Britain and France were at war. During one battle, the French captured an English major. Taking the major to their headquarters, the French general began to question him. The French general asked, "Why do you English officers all wear red coats? Don't you know the red material makes you easier targets for us to shoot at?"
In his bland English way, the major informed the general that the reason English officers wear red coats is so that if they are shot, the blood won't show and the men they are leading won't panic. And that is why from that day to now all French Army officers wear brown pants.

France is the 4th largest global economy (over the UK and similar to the US if compared per capita, a nuclear and military power stronger than the UK. France has helped the US in previous wars like it's independence from the UK, Bosnia, and the Gulf war where French troops, airplanes and nuclear ships acted in command of the US.
Also true that france would not exist if not for the US entering the 2nd world war and wouldn´t be an economic power if not for the Marshal Plan, but neither would the UK. France tries to act allways according to fairness and international law. This law has been pushed by the US, the UK, Rusia, and France itself. France felt that the action to attack a country govern by a tiran just to take away Weapons of Mass Destruction without real public proof with weapons inspections under way was an abuse as if police breaks into your house without a cour order and made it's point.
