I unplugged the receiver, put a new 3M on the card and plugged the receiver back in... like I always do.
This time, I got a "serious error" green screen message (this happened 1 time before, and I went to bed on it... everything was fine in the morning).
After an hour or so, the machine tried to reboot, and now it keeps going through this cycle (about 2 hours now):
welcome... powering up
almost there... a few more seconds
updating database... this will take a long time
Is this supposed to happen... constant rebooting every 1-2 mins?
Is there something I can do to get the machine to boot?
Thanks

Updating Database
This Will Take A Long Time
It's been over 24 hours... how long is it supposed to take??
Thanks

I doubt it's supposed to take 24 hours. I had a similar problem once. When you get the green screen that usually means file system or disk corruption. Your problem might be avoidable next time. Whenever I reset I first go into the menu and direct the unit to reboot, then right after the screen goes black I pull the plug. I hope that in this way the filesystem is synced properly before I pull the plug.
In my case I recovered a couple of times but eventually had an unrecoverable disk corruption problem. I believe it was primarily caused by heat. It gets very hot inside the unit with the cover on. With the cover off it runs cool. If you have the factory drives in it you can use the manufacturing diag program to analyze the disk surface for errors and map out the bad spots. Mine had too many errors. The diag fixed them when I had the drive in my PC where the temp was much lower but when putting back in the Tivo it had problems. I had to replace the drive.

I seemed to be having a rebbot problem too, it started right after I Xtrmem'd my DSR6000, it works fine but it reboots every time I try to use the menu. I'll tell you what I've learned from this.
1. Always set the jumpers on the hard drive back if you changed them, this gave me the "powering up" message for 12 hours until I figured it out
2. They say that unplugging and reseating the power supply ribbon that runs from the motherboard to the power supply helps with reboot, also some "electrical grease" (I don't know the proper name but, I'd love to find out!)
3 Also overheating can cause reboots, make sure that you plugged the cooling fan back in.
Now with that said, I am a rookie at all this, but have read quite alot (funny I haven't stopped my ird from rebootin ;)!) So hopefully you find this helpful also with no disrespect to the Den but, there are other sites that cover this subject a little more in depth.
