Could someone please provide a very brief summary of the goals of these two funds, an overview of the battleground as it were?

Hi Downlink,

I think that you will find that ultimately the two group have very similar objectives. Although Judges all the way up to the Appeals court of B.C. and Ontario decided that viewing American signals was not unlawful prior to April of 2002, the Supreme Court rules differently than all other courts because it looked at the ENGLISH writing differently. I do not know if they looked at the French but that must be considered equally since Canada is a bilingual country.

The ruling that they made removes the rights of Canadians to be informed and receive content which contains valuable information thus a challenge will be made to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms under the 2B section, freedom of expression. If you look at the other group you will see that their objectives are much the same. I suspect but do not know that both groups may cooperate and file documents (2 sets) in the case when it comes up. But the Charter Challenge is being fought by the Incredible/legal-rights group which has been operating for three years and which also fought the BC court case for Canam. They are the ones who WON all the way through the system up to and including the appeals court of BC and then were reversed by the ruling of the Supreme COurt. Cross examinations are currenty underway for the Charter cChallenge and some info is posted in this thread:

Thanks TTRK, I took your suggestion and followed the links and slipped a few bucks to the charter challenge. You're right, both cases are important, and should be funded.
