I came home today to see my DirecTIVO Sony T60 say "welcome...powering up." It stuck there and wouldn't move. So, I unplugged it, plugged it back in, and now it goes from that message to "almost there...a few more seconds please."

Then it goes back to the welcome screen, then the almost there screen, etc. It keeps on doing this in some endless loop. I've searched around and couldn't find someone else with this problem.

Not being real adept at these things, can anyone suggest some remedies to this problem?

Have you made any changes to the rc.sysinit or installed any new software/hacks to your DTivo since the last time it rebooted properly?

JJ,

No. It's been fine, up until this week when it went into rebooting eternity.

I've reseated the access card--no luck.

I've reseated the power supply cable--no luck.

I've checked the connections--everything appears to be fine.

I fear that the hard drives are shot. I've got a bunch of recordings saved on them, but none of the recordings are of extreme importance. Is there any way to run diagnostics on the drives but copy what's currently on them so I don't lose them? BTW, what pisses me off is that this unit, and the two drives themselves, are only 8 months old and were purchased brand new.
