What happened to all the old threads?

I'm assuming they were deleted.. this is horrible. I really, really, really, really, wanted to get ahold of a thread I remember seeing documenting how to change a dealer card to work with ppv's etc. I was so happy the forum came back up and now it's not even the same...

Search for it again. I found tons of my old posts about past actives that I no longer do.

When trying to browse to specific forums (such as Technical and Advanced DSS Discussion) I get access denied. Seems like they've blocked access to that stuff for now, I don't think they're gone though.

Are you saying that DTV (or the court really) is supposed to think that Rise actually deleted the threads?

I doubt that...for three reasons mainly.

(Note: Please ignore this if that's not what you meant....=)

1) The case is still going on. It's not over...DTV hasn't won. What most likely happened is the judge said "ok, for the time being the site can continue to operate, but no DTV hacking discussion till we get this settled.". What's another scenario where the case is still going on but the judge already says "no, it's not ok to discuss that...delete all discussion of hacking DTV".

2) Even if the judge DID say Rise should delete the threads...don't you think they'd have someone VERIFY that they were deleted? I mean I came to that conclusion via a very cursory check that the threads are most likely still there.

3) Now if Rise DID want to keep the threads but make the judge think he deleted them then it'd make a LOT more sense to just have a seperate backup of the DB and truly delete the threads out of the running DB.

I would suspect that the case is still ongoing (hence the continuation of the gag order) but the site was allowed by the court (against the wishes of dtv) to re-open on a limited basis with no Dave hacking discussions untill the issues can be resolved in court

It has never been stated what the status of the copied discs are (so if the court rules against the den, I guess the discs could change hands)

All of this is speculation on my part...but I think the fight is still on and we should all thank Rise for not tucking tail and running like all the others have when faced with this situation.

yeah this site use to be the elite of the elite site in the dss field. However now just a mediocre site now. I hope rise is going to get the site back to where it belongs as a very informative site for the industry as it once was. I hope he hasn't let DAVE get the best of him as it clearly looks like.

Rise is not going to let them do a DAMN thing that he and his attornys are able to stop them from doing! Rise is one of the only, if not the only one, fighting to save sites like these. If it were like you think it (clearly looks like) this site would still be down, and not back online. Wake up and smell the coffee!

I never thought the day would come when Rise would have to step down.... I kept telling friends the den will be back but it is gonna take time to get through the system. Glad to see it up again albeit a little slimmer than before. Good luck Rise :cool: And that's STILL my 2 cents!!!! :cool:

Mech, man you can't smell the coffee and drink it too at the den anymore. If I was able too I would be reading ALL the great information of the past. But its all gone, this means the coffee pot is empty. Empty coffee pot + Dave = elimanted threads from site. So now all have their toast with no butter now. So without the butter its dry.

For the time being the info is unavailable, but as Mechanic said, Rise is fighting to bring it back. Gotta take things one step at a time through cumbersome legal paths, and no-one wants him to misstep in the process. When this all gets decided, we hope to have it all back, and at that point, the Den will be bigger than ever before.

don't give up on the info yet. look at everybody's post count. even with the deletefest that happened that first day when you could get to the other forums through searches, you'd see a drastic change in everybody's title and post count if they were gone.

the library may be locked up, but we ain't thrown away the key yet.

Those old posts are not deleted, they are just not available right now.

But if cases are won or a charter challenge is a winner then they could all be made available again, mucho pronto.
