As a Canadian, I am very dissapointed in the quality as well as quantity of programming offered here by our great Canadian Lawful distributors(My opinion).
As my constitutional right, my opinion to view programming such as HBO,Nick @ Nite, the shoping channel(for my wife...) as well as some other great specialty channels which are NOT available on Bell,Star Choice and Rogers should NOT be trampled on, nor must I feel like a "criminal" if I want to watch these specialty channels being beamed into my back yard.
Therefore, I would like to see DTV become a lawful distributor here in Canada, and I will be the first to subscribe.
I don't want to start a flame war, but these are my thoughts.
Moreover, DTV might want to consider an "Amnesty" progran for us Canadians if and when DTV is lawfully allowed to sell their programming in Canada.

Until then, well, you know.....I'll keep my rabbit ears pointed upwards....

I agree wholeheartedly that you should have the right to make YOUR OWN choices, and not having someone limit them, before you get to make those choices.

As if that's not bad enough, the only real reason your choices are being limited, is because of BEV who want to keep competition to a minimum so they can sell their programming. If you and others actually had a choice in broadcasters, they couldn't compete, and would go bankrupt. That's the only reason they're fighting this, and nipping the heels of anyone who would upset their apple cart.

They don't seem to realize that all they'd have to do is put together some decent content, and they wouldn't have this problem.

Megados: I actually did subscribe to Rogers' full package for 3 months as a promotion they were offering a while back, and I REALLY tried to get used to it, but I found myself switching to DTV every few minutes as there was NOTHING on Rogers. Some of the channels which were being aired on Rogers were simply "Filler types" which really were USELESS!
Don't get me wrong, I'm a 100% Canadian, believe in our Country(Hell I even sing along with the national anthem at the Corel Center), but I gotta give credit to the USA, they have WAY better programming!
What will we be losing as having DTV a lawful distributor? Will we lose our Canadian Heritage becausewe watch too much American TV?
Come-on CRTC.....give me a break! Perhaps this is a wake-up call to all the Canadian broadcasters.....we may want to create our own soaps, our own version of the Sopranos, American Idol, The Price is Right, Jeopardy, Who wants to be a Millionaire....
I may be going overboard here and heading off on a tangent, but these steps may actually get Canadians to watch game shows/soaps which are filmed here in Canada!
These are my 2 cents,

People live in the delusional world where thye think they have rights and freedoms, that were passed on to them or given to them by the elected officials, we as a people put in place. What we all need to think about is just how those rights and freedoms have eroded over time. They are not the same in law or content as they were when first written into our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. This is mostly because we as Canadians are a peaceful lot, and civil disobedience and riots are not our way. How different things would be today if say there was even one action where a group did riot and lets say over turn a limo or two on Parliament Hill, maybe even with some of the crude from the liberal party in side them. That would definitely change their double fisted hands from taking all that special interests loobiest can push at them.

We are a country with very little history of fighting for our own rights. We are known world wide for our willingness to send our troops to do peace keeping duty, and we have few equals in that field. But stand up against our own corrupt government and be ready to use force if necessary, well the word wimp comes to mind more then any other that would fit. The Supreme Court ruled not on law but on politics, but did leave the Charter issue, as I think they knew what they were doing was wrong, but the hold your nose and do it for government, in my opinion any ways. But yes, I guess I am also one of those Canadians who would like to see another way then the use of force, but that does not mean I have not thought about it, and hell yes I probably would even support it. One day though they may well go too far, and I can not say where that line is, and for some the line may already have been crossed. When it does and when people are ready to come here to Ottawa and make it known that enough is enough, hell I will gladly join in. Maybe a campgne of sending a rock to the MP's with a note, this one is delivered by mail. If they do not start to govern the way democracy was designed to be, then the next ones may have to be delivered in a more personal way. But I guess that would be a threat and again the wrong thing even if it was done to mae them do the right thing. Dilemas, dilemas dilemas do we have to fight for peace? Do we risk our freedom to get freedom? It all seem just so insane does it not?

Nothing like having that subscribed card as backup. Like Niknak always said, "pay a little, get alot". They are about fifty channels you don't care to view, and, a few you can't get with a basic subscription. Reasonable swap don't you think? DTV is a good deal even though the cost for basic service is now double the cost when I first subscribed. Wishing you guys the best.

Hi Guys,

There is a little problem here with this and its a very simple matter. You do NOT get decent programming without paying the price for it.

And that is where the problem lies. Bell ExpressVu would have to pay for the programming and that is WHY they have CRAPPY stuff on their lineup. They pay nothing or very little for the garbage they have and would have to pay a hefty price to get some good stuff. That is why they don't have it because I am sure that if they wanted it, they could easily get the government to agree. Both Bev and the Government know that there is nothing to compare with the good shows produced in the USA done in Canada. It does not take a rocket scientist.

But it will never happen because BEV simply do not want to pay.http://www.legal-rights.org/images/ttrk.gif

Exactly TTRK.

Canadian providers simply do not want to pay for the premium programming.

Why bother to pay the big bucks and give the customer programming they want, when they don't have to.

As long as they maintain a status quo, then they can all get away with it.

DTV was set up to service Canada. But, dropped out when faced with the Cancon rules.

If the regulations are dropped, then DTV/EchoStar will come to Canada and if Canadian providers do not start shelling out for programming, they will die out.

Not much wonder that they do not want competition.

Buy off the government and the court system, it's cheaper.

Yup, You got it catrain13,

But when it comes to competition, BEV does not know what the word means. After more than half a century of being protected against that by being the "public" phone company, they cannot exist in a competitive environment. They are sed to running to big brother and crying in his lap. They have tried to form companies in the last 10 years that operate just like pother companies do. But almost every one was a FLOP and some were VERY BIG flops.

But it does not bother them as they just get permission to raise the rates again.

BEV has not made a red penny since it started operations. They constantly lose money financed by your telephone bill. They hope that one day they will be able to buy our Star Choice and in one fell swoop they will have a company with 2 million subs and one that has no competition. Then perhaps they can make a few bucks, they hope.

There certainly is no room for two satellite companies in Canada with 30 million population when there are only two in the USA where the population approaches 300 million. And they all speak one language whereas in Canada they are divided into French and English as a further difficulty creator for any satellite company.

Bev are hoping to later on market TV, Telephone and Internet from the one satellite company and with * C they hope they would have enough customers to make a buck. Sure if their rates are noncompetitive, their programing is cheap crap and the government forces us to buy them because there is no competition in the boondocks like where I live.

If they cannot have that then they are doomed to failure.

Then its back to their paid off and bribed buddies to get another rate increase, yet again.http://www.legal-rights.org/images/ttrk.gif

To The Real King!! You do need to get out more son... In Florida, and probably Texas, the spoken language, English, is becoming a second language. Spanish prevails. If you are a salesman and can't speak spanish then you are in trouble.:gg :D
