XM has TWO satellites.
They are named ROCK and ROLL.
I have XM and it is pretty good.
It is cheaper than Serius but has limited commercials. If you can put up with about a minute of commercials every 30 minutes or so, you can live with XM.
Unless I am mistaken, Serius is commercial free, but costs about 30% more per month.
HERE (http://www.xmradio.com/newsroom/screen/event_rock_launches.html) is information about the first satellite.
HERE (http://www.xmradio.com/newsroom/screen/event_Roll_launches.html) is information about the second satellite.

You pay for cable T.V.? Do you get commercials?
Personally, it makes no difference to be if you use Serius or XM. I chose XM because of the price. The commercial content is not enough to really bother me. With broadcast radio you get upwards of 15 minutes of commercials per hour. With XM you get about 2-3 minutes per hour. Plus, if you have a commercial on one channel, you can always change to another.
XM does have commercial free channels though.

Yea your right I do pay for commercials on T.V but hey what the heck for 3 bucks more per month you don't have to deal with ANY commercials. I think I would pay the difference for T.V if they had it too. Lets be honest what gets you more upset, paying the extra 3 bucks or having your favorite show interupted by commercials? I guess it depends on your preferences. Maybe I got "brain damage" hmmmm, lol.............Mort

You make a decent point. $3 more is not going to change anyone's life style.
I guess I chose XM because it was what most of the people I spoke to recommended, and, I got a sweet deal. $70 for the radio, and 3 months of free service to start.
I have had the radio installed since Mid July and so far I have no complaints. The commercials really are minimal, and, like I said before.. it is not a big deal to change channels if a commercial comes on because you won't get two channels playing commercials at the same time.
With broadcast radio ALL of the stations seem to go to commercial break at the same time, which is not what happens with XM.
I wonder how long Serius will stay commercial free? XM does have about 30 channels that are commercial free though.
By the way, please don't use my name in vein. Thanks.

Well I have seen many different views on this. I guess I'll take my gut feeling and go with sirius. But there has been people like yourself who like XM and maybe it is better. I'm just gonna have to suck it up and go with one of em. I think I'm gonna go with the "plug and play" system they offer because I already have a cd player in my vehicle. I don't want to pay to have a messy install ya know. Anyways I can get the home kit and take it from the car into my house, right? Should be interesting. I bet I come back after I have it for a few months and say I don't like and you were right, lol. Just my luck.............sorry about the use of your name but I was losing my mind just like right now! ;-) ................Mort

For some time sirius was looking like it would go under that is why most went with XM, I'm sure their the same in many ways and like BD said the deal from the start is how you should make your choice

sirius, hands down.
Howard, ALL NFL GAMES, Lifetime subscription at reasonable price, 3 Sats in orbit, more attractive receivers, more repeaters in use (and repeaters in no way affect sound quality), and clearly a way cooler sounding name!!!

Did you notice the fine print that the Lifetime subscription is for the life of that particular radio that you are signing up. So if that on dies anytime sooner than 3 years or you would like to upgrade you are SOL.

Mort - I bought my husband the Sporster Replay plug-n-play for xmas. The idea was to use it in the car and then take it on the boat. We have had a lot of static using the cigarette plug and sometimes the signal goes out altogether (2 different issues). From what we are being told, it looks like we will have to have it professionally installed to get around this problem. We live in the Atlanta, GA metro area. Otherwise, we like Sirius jut fine...
Goodluck!

Actually you can transfer the lifetime subscription up to 3 times in the future to 3 seperate radios....that's a total of the consecutive lifetime of 4 radios for $499.....it's a great deal if you like Sirius a lot and plan to stick with them for a long time....
