I have a DTV 5th gen reciver that the green light goes on for a second only then it turnes off, no picture at any time , this happend a few weeks ago? I have tried the hard and soft reset but still no luck, Is it posibile that my card needs to have a diffrent bin on it to activate the reciver? and does the reciver have to be hooked up to the dish to do this ? as I dont have it hooked up at this time as im using the dish for dish net, as with dish net and the 3100 recivers when you get zaped you have to re flash and then pug in and the light flashes then goes off for a while till it updates, is dtv the same? thanks

The receiver doesn't have to be hooked to anything at all to power up . . . I'd guess there's something wrong with the receiver itself.

will blow the diode 99 percent of the time.To check it open up the case and looking from the front to the rear, in the lower left area toward you there are some large round blue coloured capacitors.

Now to the immediate right of these components there is a black 1/2" diode soldered at both ends to the board. (it looks like a resistor) The diode is listed as CR14108 on the board. Check this diode to see if it is blown.

With no power to the receiver take a metor set to the diode. Check it by placing the test lead on both sides of the diode and then reverse them.

If it is good you will be getting a reading one way and not the other. If it is bad you will either not get a reading at all, or get a reading both ways through the diode. If so replace, and this should fix your problem with the receiver not powering up.[Radio Shack Part # 276-1102] Its kind of a difficult solder job if you haven't done much electronics soldering, your probably better off having a pro do it.:D

Hi as im new to this can you use any of the codes ,bin files for a 5th gen reviver or is there special codes for each type of reciver. also how to tell if your on the right sat, as it sais signail locked at 66 per cent buti only get 2 stations with nothing on them . is that because of the codes or the wrong sat, thanks

66 is not enough signal. Do you get channel 100 with a welcome to message? I suspect you are on the wrong sat. Move your dish about 10 degrees to the east, same elevation.

Best to get a Cheap SAT METER - that way you can fine tune your DISH and max out the signal =- make sure they is a clear LINE OF SIGHT so cut down any tree limbs in the area in front of the dish etc...

when it snows its a BITCH !
good luck

I get 66% when I wanna watch Al- Jareez ! but then I live in the SOuth Pole and we dont see much of anything that isnt WHITE here - what you call snow we call entertainment since our sets get snow on the picture tube alot but you ever noticed how it all changes - is it random? hmmm

Thanks charliex,
I had the same problem on one of my receivers. Works great!!
I have another receiver that has a couple of blown transistors and
burnt resistors.
Do you know where I can get replacement components for these receivers? I have a schematic but the components # don't show.
Thanks.

Hi LEICHLER1,

Radio Shack!!

Read the resister values of the color coding and the transistor values printed on the transister. These are common values available just about anywhere.http://www.legal-rights.org/images/ttrk.gif

With the transisters, remember the polarity but resistors dont matte

All the components are fried.
Can't make out any colourson the resistors,
and the transistors are so badly burnt one only has 3 legs left
the other a surface mount is just about completly missisng.
