I see a lot of negative comments all over this forum about what we've got now. What I see is a potential WEALTH of info of many different subjects. I am part of the "old PD" crowd. I wasn't a member there, only a long-time guest, & it sadden me to see it go down. It also tickled me to see it come back.
All of you who can't do anything but bitch about "where can I get info now" or "this site is dead" need to do a little exploring. If you don't like the new DEN, go elsewhere & don't waste our time. You should be grateful SOMEBODY didn't just fold up & run. It took a lot of guts to do what Rise did.
This site is actually bigger than it was a few months ago, if memory serves me right. And even though I don't use all the forums available here, I see several subjects that are hard to find anywhere else on the web. Don't believe me, go back to the main menu & study it a little. I think you'll agree then.
Sure, if you're looking for "files & stuff", they're no longer here. But if that's the only interest you have for the computing hobby, you're spending a little too much time on the couch.
Anyway, thanks Rise for what you've done. I like the new Pirate's Den.

I see several subjects that are hard to find anywhere else on the web Yeah, ok. How about an example?

The point of the den in the first place was the hobby. Take the hobby away from the site and what do you have? I'll tell you, a whole lot of nothing. I appreciate what rise did by opening the board, but not much else. He had to know that something like this was bound to happen, especially after decodernews was busted. He gets no sympathy from me.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but everyone knows it's true, they just don't want to admit it.

I'm not going to flame you. As a matter of fact, I agree with you that the original reason for coming here is gone.
But you still have some very intelligent, articulate, and knowledgable people associated with this site. I'm sure that their knowledge extends to much more than just hacking satellite signals. Some one just needs to ask a good question and I think you'll find the answer here.
I think if you give it time, this will become a very interesting site to visit. (At least to me it will be.)

And I think Risestar SHOULD be commended,if not for the site coming back, then for having the stones to stand up to that kind of bullying.

Takes some cajones to do that.
For real.

mOde,
No insult or flame intended. But, if you don't like the new PD, why are you here??????

Yes, indeed. If this site now contains a whole lot of nothing, then why are you still here? Since our return and change in direction, many have moved on to other sites, however a fair number of people have remained and the new direction is also now beginning to bring in a new audience that was not served before.

There are still a fair number of sites around of the like which you are looking for, however they won't be around forever and some may not be around for long at all, so make the most of the time left.

Your comments about the hobby being the reason that this site is here is true, however what exactly defines the hobby? I define it as the desire to share thoughts and ideas and encourage others to do the same. That is what this site has really been about since day 1. So the subject has changed. The rest has not however. Sad, but true however we have rolled with the punches and are still here

In a way, the new direction will benefit the site as it will open us up to new opportunities that were not available to us before.

The Pirates Den is the site of choice for the DSS hobbyist. Here you will find information relating to the testing of the Digital Satellite System (DSS). That is part of the first paragraph when you go to dsschat.com. Site of choice for the DSS hobbyist? Not anymore. Don't get me wrong, I blame no one else but dave for this eunuchism of the den.

So the subject has changed. The rest has not however. You where made to remove all DSS hacking info from the site; the subject and ALL content related to it. There is nothing left here but despair and I am saddened by the loss of the real den.

Well the people here are my friends and family, thats why i come here. That will not change. Some of the most intelligent minds in the world are still here and there are very few things that you cant ask and get an answer for or an idea to build from.

Once again mOde, if you don't like it, please leave. There are still many sites out there with what you're looking for, but you're not gonna find it here, for the time, anyway. And you're also not gonna find those other sights by whining about your personal problems here all the time. Better go find them while they're still up.

HotRodTodd sums it up pretty well, m0de. Rise sums up the mission statement of the Den here, also very well. It's about the exchange of ideas. Now if the only idea you have in your head is watching TV, then, at least for now, you're SOL here.

But as a reward for coming here and pointing out the bleeding obvious, I'll give you two rewards:

First, I hereby absolve you from any obligation to ever having to come here again, that is to say that you can now leave whenever you wish.

Second, I hereby grant you permission to go anywhere else you wish on the 'net.

Happy surfing :)

AMEN OffAMyChain,

There are two kinds of people who come here right now it seems. The first group are our friends and family. The people we missed when we were offline and who we anxiously watch for as they come back, one by one. These people were missed greatly and add value to any site. But mostly they add good friendship and conversation and knowledgable interest in a diversity of subjects.

Then there are those who dont say it but who really just lurk around hoping to beg a file to play TV. And boy are they ever disappointed when they cannot get one. All they add is mumble, mumble, complaint, complaint.T hats really their only purpose when they come here so they dont like the changes. Useually they have nothing much to say or to add and the words they know best are "ME TOO". Well those days are over here guys so you had better get a sub and keep to the couch.

And for the REAL PEOPLE, I for one welcome you. There ARE other things to discuss than TV and the boob tube in life.http://www.legal-rights.org/images/ttrk.gif

I used to come here for the PC forums mainly, I can keep my tv up...
I think one of the points is that there are very few posts now....and a lot of topic specific forums to go to w/ hundreds of posts.
I used to get the hash info.(I could have gotten it anywhere)
Answer some newbie questions...THEN read other topics...
The question I have is this..1st advertisers go........then DSS hacking info.....if we lose the case does the Den stay or go?

I like this site but I can discuss sports at a bar, not DSS related info. Not that there isn't good info here, just not enough of it unless I find the time to learn programing language.....
I think a lot of members feel the same as I do.
As far as reading legal rights, that what lawyers are for! :D
Good luck Risestar...........

Hi Fatdan,

If the charter challenge FAILS then we would be stuck to continue exactly as we operate today and so will every other site out there. Nobody will be allowed to post any information on any hacking related info subject to their arrest and charging with breach of the RC Act.

But the Judge in that case could rule that "speech" (or posting) on that subject is NOT against the law too. So its very early to know where this will go just because of one ruling on an Anton Piller order. Its a surprise ruling and is not all that likely to be upheld if challenged. Nothing is written in stone until it reaches the Supreme Court so there is still a long way to go for this.

I cannot imaging that it will be lost but its not totally impossible with a Supreme Court that seems highly political. But the Liberals wont be in power for ever either (I hope) and I believe other governments would be willing to change that law if elected. What I am hoping is that they would be afraid to go against all the other judgements they have made on 2B and so will not be able to justify any change. 2B or "FREEDOM OF SPEECH" is really the basis for a democracy and very few politico's will be willing to play with that. So far its just one Judge and he ruled that way because he was previously called to task by the Supreme Court having reversed him when he did rule in our favor. The Supreme Court ruling seems to have pout a lot of judges on "WORRY MODE" so that they no longer rule their minds but rather what they THINK the Supreme Court wants. And they may well be WRONG in that. Its pretty dangerous when Judges start ruling, not what THEY think, but what they think someone else wants. But some of them are chicken S H I T to actually rule their minds and want to curry favor by ruling what they perceive the Supreme Court wants. They KNOW that is wrong but they do it anyway. But not ALL JUDGES will do this and many still have the guts to rule their minds.

But we will just have to see what happens when the 2B is presented this fall.http://www.legal-rights.org/images/ttrk.gif
