UTV HDD SWAP, Via Computer or How To Save Your rev 3.5 for Future Use

This is not my work, or my Findings.. i Was helped and Allowed to post this info for all of you that need this help, I can help you with your questions.. since i already did this and it worked great

NOTE.. YOU NEED TO HAVE COMPUTER HARDWARE SKILL'S TO TRY THIS..OR ELSE YOU COULD DAMAGE YOUR COMPUTER OR UTV

YOU NEED A WORKING (NOT EVALUATION) COPY OF WINHEX

While the utv is running, unplug the ide cable, (leave power applied)boot your computer hit pause before it detects ide drives plug ide cable from computer into drive and hit enter the drive should now be detected.
run winhex, from tools select physical disk(start center on some versions, then select the physical disk that is your utv), from position goto offset 13480600 look at 13480624-7 in the display it should read FSNo
right click the first byte (13480600)select begining of block now from postition tab goto offset 154805ff right click, select end of block. from edit tab select copy all into new file and name it on your local drive.
(if FSNo is at 15480624 instead of 13480624 then select 15480600-174805ff and do the same)

Now that you have the file you can disconnect the drive and hook up your new drive. on the new drive select offset 0 as begining of block and 178c2fff as end of block. From edit tab select fill file, select first option and type in 00 for hex value (if the drive is already zeros you can skip this step)
after it zeros that chunk goto tools then disk tools then clone disk
on source file select read sectors from image file and select the file you saved from before. select your destination drive and start sector will be 631811 (this is lba 13480600 or sector 09a403 in hex...which is sector 631811 in decimal)(make sure you select copy entire source) and click ok it will write the sectors and you and the drive should be showing the data starting
at 13480600 now disconnect the drive install it in the utv plugin the power cord utv should now come up to the welcome to utv screen.

note this new hdd will no longer work on the computer unless you do the same procedure and erase all the content (i think i havent tried yet)

Hopes this helps many as it did helped me..
thanks to the finder of this info
DONT TRY THIS IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF RUINING YOUR COMPUTER OR UTV
IT WORKED GREAT FOR ME AND DID IT TWICE

GOOD LUCK

My old 40Gb drive that came with my UTV unit failed, and I upgraded to an 80Gb drive. When I set it up, it automatically download the 3.7 version of the software (which I hate). Since my old drive has failed, how can I aquire a copy of the 3.5 software?

Also, will your instructions work no matter the size of the hard drive?

The instructions work regardless of HDD size, because it seems that the UTV BIOS, upon recognizing that the partition table(s) is/are incorrect, creates default partitions based on the size of the drive.

Also, regardless of which offset you find the O/S on your current HDD, you always write the O/S to sector 631811 = offset 13480600 on the brand-new drive.

3.5 is out there..., but 3.7's not so bad ;)

Does anyone have a copy of 3.5 software. I have 2 UTV without HDs. Please let me know if you do. I will happily pay for it.

I've tried this... With my own personal copy of WinHex 11.15.

All I ever get when reading the DTV disk is an error that sector 0 could not properly be read. I'm able to view the sectors, but info in the farthest right pane is listed as unreadable.

This all sucks as I was able to select the 3.5 (hoping errors would not happen) and try to copy it to a file back up. Unfortunately the software would just stall with a save box never moving beyond 0%. I'd then have to reboot the machine.

On a positive note though, I did not have to play with hot cables inside while booting. The PC was able to detect the drive with no problems. I did try it both ways... just leaving in the cable and only plugging it in half way in the boot seq. but this never seemed to maky any difference to the PC or Winhex.

I guess what I need to know now is... could this be a problem with the PC I'm using? I suspect it might have a virus on the computer's main drive. Can this cause this error? Has DTV or Winhex purposely done something to make the drive so you can not fully read it? The Winhex version I'm using was only released last week. Is it possible that UTV software version 3.7 has been secretly upgraded to 3.7b and it locks out Winhex?

Please help!

There is a working UTV 3.5 image on members download area now

That's great and all with the software being available in the Members area, but I just dished out 70 CAD for WinHex just to have it not work. Now I'm being asked to pay 45 CAD to get a single file.

I guess I'll have to try this on another PC and see what happens. I can't afford to keep dishing out cash for things that are supposed to work but don't.

What problem are you having with Winhex? Most software problems are related to one or more missing files that can usually be obtained freely and added to your windows directory

Forgive me (I am learning...). What utility do I need to image my hard drive with the UTV 3.5 bin file located in the member's file section?

How can I image my hard drive in order to have a backup for the future?

Does the UTV 3.5 file work on a SONY UTV (it is stated that it is from an RCA).

Thanks in advance for all your help!!

Hi!
I´ve just got a licensed copy of winhex, and a utv3.5 image.
I have a blank WD HDD in which I want to copy the 3.5 but when I put clone image and select it, and the start sector is 631811 it won´t let me do it, it would pop up a messsage advising :
An error ocurred while writing to WDC xxxxx. Access to memory adress is not valid,
Could someone help me here please?

I miss my Directv!!!!!

Did you remember to do this part? The UTV has security measures written to the drive that is designed to make it undetectable in computers unless you follow a precise procedure

...

While the utv is running, unplug the ide cable, (leave power applied)boot your computer hit pause before it detects ide drives plug ide cable from computer into drive and hit enter the drive should now be detected
