New to the forum. Quick question, and then I will shut-up.

I have an RCA receiver, and it is getting "winked". I am looking to get another receiver. Can anyone recommend what is the best alternate receiver? I know there are Hughes, Sony, Panasonic and Philips. Suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

DirecTv receivers are the best, NFL Football, case closed.
I prefer the new RCA's menu and guide structure over the others I have seen.
"wink" is available on ALL DTV receivers that have a "plus" designation(multi-satellite) or inter-active software, this was made available on 4.5 generation receivers and newer.;)

Hey Ron. If you have the RCA receiver...is yours an older one (like more than 3 years old)? If it is newer....how are you getting around them writing to your receiver? Would it not make sense to search out a "pre" 4.5 generation receiver, so you don't have a problem with firmware being written to your receiver?

Another question, Have you heard for the Hughes - GAEBOA DTV Receiver?

Thanks

I sub so don't care what they do to the receiver as long as the NFL is still working.
"wink" is a CAM ID check, among other things, and it is ONLY triggered when the CAM ID of the card inserted is above a certain number, this allows current HU subs to operate just fine, but when they are swapped out the higher numbers on the P4 card (WHEN INSERTED) trigger the "wink" so the receiver will only accept P4 or higher CAM ID's.
And yes if you don't need a multi-satellite system then older receivers are fine, just have a slower menu speed and not as many guide options.
Hughes makes a fine product, the receiver you mentioned is a newer "plus" receiver, I just prefer the menu/guide on the RCA.

Ok I've had 2 rca subs and both reciever are deadas in don't work right. I had 2 Hughes recievers as replcement recievers. They worked well but I don't like the guild. I now have 2 samsung recievers and they run cool,as in cold cool, have a great guild setup and seem to be working great. I also had a Phillips but it was S-L-O-W
