View Full Version : Hughes HIRD-E1 problem

hi, i have a problem with a hughes HIRD-E1 ird i just bought, when i plug the ird in it just goes to a white screen, i dont even have to press power and the buttons on the ird dont respond nor does the power led light up.

can anybody help?

Try the video output, and go into a VCR or something. Do you get a normal picture then? If you do, the problem is either the RF modulator itself, or the input to it. If not, the problem is further upstream. If it is, you might have to do some tracing.

i havent tried the s-video output only the rf and line-out outputs, i dont think the output matters, as soon as i plug the ird in it goes to the blank screen and the buttons on the ird dont respond, as if it was dead. i tried rebooting it but nothing happens

The line video output was what I was speaking of. If that's doing the same thing, then the problem's not in the video circuitry, and having mentioned now the fact that the power switch isn't doing anything tells us there's a problem further upstream. Now you'll have to do some investigating with a DMM, (checking power supply, and circuit voltages) and a good oscilloscope, (checking whether cpu clocks, etc are running, as well as whether there's any communication going on on the mainboard.)

It may be power-related, or may be main board related, and some digging will be needed to determine what's gone wrong.
