Wow... It's been about 8 months or so since I've logged on here. What the **** happened? Looks like DirecTV really managed to take the teeth out of this web site.
Oh well at least pirate-den is still up and running...but I'm wondering what for....?

______________
don't get me wrong....theres lots more that can be done here besides the other obvious things that we can't or arent supposed to, so all is not lost. But as codemnky said....the teeth of what this site was orgionally about is gone now.
guess we need to make the best of whats left and/or added on eh?

hey i used to me a member here when i did try to get info on something that never did work for me lol but hey yes i can see what your saying i think risestar should give the old people a free run at the website to see if it still interests others to join again,i know there are a few things on here that you cant get to unless you are a paying member but what they are who knows?????????i think if the site should get popular as far as paying members he should give it a free trial run say 30 days or smething to let people try it out and so they could see whats here maybe then there would be more members, before there was alot of members but they were here for the free speach and that is not allowed here anymore which is a total shame, but like i say i dont know what all is here really, but i do come back to visit here and there just to see whats happenin as it was one of my favorite sites at one time

That was my point. Are you saying you don't have any hope that we'll ever have free speech in our own country(s) again?

XMyth,
well look at whats happened so far......
we can't talk about what we want here when it comes to what this forum origionally encompased without violating some trumped up law that was forced on us because of some other entity's supposed projected loss from it. And i stress "projected" strongly!
Plus I can take it a step further and say that this infringement on our freedoms also takes a chunk out of our "freedom of expression"
freedom of speech and expression go hand in hand pretty much in alot of cases.
Do i think we'll ever get it back? Well no....not as long as the bureucrats in government let these companies pay thier way into the law books we won't. And i'll bet it's not going to get any better anytime soon unless someone finds some miracle loophole that stops em dead in their tracks.
It's a shame.... really it is....
Boils down to one thing....
Money....thats it....
If you think about it since 9/11 everyone has been on edge and all this didn't really get cranked up till just after that....
alot of people lost alot of money in businesses and prophit sharing plans ect....heck i lost approx half of mine which was only a projected loss but it was still a paper loss i didn't like to see.
Everyone is hurting no matter what you hear from the government and job unimployment poles ect. These companies are just trying to recover their losses due to this fact i think any way they can. And why not attack this hobby....in their eyes it's illegal so they can do it in any fashion they feel necessary i suppose no matter who it affects and how.
Now i will say this...there are certain factions within this hobby that have turned it into a friggin joke and pretty much helped make things the way they are, and we know who they are...dealers and such trying to make a quick buck off something thats pretty much free to begin with....they just prey on unsuspecting newbies that don't know any better or just don't want to learn anything and just wanted free programming at a price no matter what it was. But we won't get into that discussion...that would just open up yet another touchy issue and start up too much crap...no sense in beating a dead dog to pieces anymore than it is. hehe
Anyway thats just my take on this issue....
call me a nay sayer but i've been paying attention to things for a while and they are tightening the noose more and more everyday. Driving everyone further and further undergound into the shadows of the dark corners of the internet and whereever.
If things lighten up and get better i'll be suprised

Swoop,
I agree with most of what you said and only partially disagree with one of your statements. Yes, the outlook is bleak; however the fight goes on nontheless. There are other avenues for a Charter Challenge that are being taken and even DTV's American letter campaign may have to stop VERY soon. It's not everything we could hope for but it's one hell of a start.
Lets just look at the situation in Canada...Echo, not DTV though but others are using their money to fight these things how? To keep a Charter Challenge from reaching the supreme court right?
They're not so smug as to think that they have won outright no matter what. They know that if it gets that far then their stranglehold on the hobby is in jeapordy.
Sure, if we win that then they'll just come back with something else....it's going to be a fight no matter what. We were on top for a while and now they are. It's possible that our side will be down for the count eventually, but it isn't right now.
It's for THAT reason (and the 2512 appeal happening soon) that I have hope.
Without hope what do you have?

yep xmyth,
it's definatly a cat and mouse game as it has been from the start.
i'd really like to see the people prevail in this matter for sure. :)
wouldn't be any challenge if nobody fought back now would it? heh
i guess theres a little hope in all of us ;) even me :D
the picture just seem pretty bleak at the moment. :Z
