I have some problem with the hard disk and was wondering if someone can provide an advice on how to replace the hard disk in Dish PVR 501. The questions are
1. How to clone the OS on the new drive
2. Can I put a bigger Hard disk
Thaks a lot.

I had no problem by formating (in NTSF) the existing HD and getting it stream updated again.
I works like new !
On another machine I replaced the 40gig DH with a new 80gig like this:
Newegg.com - MAXTOR 4R080L0-QV Hard Drives

Worked fine as well.
I think you only have to stick with the same brand (Maxtor or Seagate).
Make sure you purchase a drive made for DVRs.

I appreciate the upgrade instructions. Very clear and detailed.
Does the receiver/PVR need to be connected to the sattelite dish and the phone line at the same time? My PVR is at a country house where I don't currently have land lines active.
