how do I get rid of the error message "Serious error has occured with your receiver" ??

Call dish and they should send you another, read the rules of the forum.

remove the card...wait for card unremove error then....
Unplug the machine...wait a bit ... plug it back in...
put back in card.... power down
reset ....good luck if all else fails
if this still occurs call Dish as suggested and walk through the steps they sugesst
