I purchased a Kenwood here2anywhere and a car docking kit to enjoy Sirius in my ford Ranger. Instead of using the provided cigarrette- lighter power supply, I hardwired the power cable to the 12v switched power for my radio. The thing sounds great when the engine is off with just the power: but when the engine is on, the radio is switched to Auxillary input, and the unit is in the cradle, there is a nasty hum. I used a voltmeter and found that the power when the engine is off is 12V and on is 14V. The manual says the power handling is 9~16V, so I don't see where the problem is... anyone have any suggestions???

I don't think it's a matter of voltage, but, rather, one of noise on the supply line. You should be able to eliminate it, by using one of those niose supressor kits, (I believe Rat-Shack has them) or DIY with a choke and a capacitor connected at your power input:
The choke is in series with your power lead, and the capacitor from the power lead on the receiver to ground. Something on the order of 100 microfarad or higher, electrolytic. If the unit has more than, say 20 watts of audio output, the capacitor's value would have to be correspondingly higher . . .

I went to the Rat Shack, picked up a noise filter, spliced it into the power cable, and now I can enjoy my satellite radio in my car at last!!! Megados, you rock!
