I just got a new DirectDVR and regular receiver. Since the stuff came with a standard installation for free - though why not.

Well after 4 hours and no signal on the odd transponders (both units) and low 40s on the even, the installer said the dish was bad and for me to return it and get another one.

A little bit of reading here seems to indicate the dish (18" w/triple) was fine but his cables may be the problem. Though I would save some money by not having to buy a bulk spool of coax. I believe the carpet cleaning bill is going to be more.

But if I take a survey transet home form work what should I be looking at as far a settings?

AZ - 224
Elev - 40
Tilt - 59

I am having to look thru a bunch of trees, so setting the ground based pole seems imporant.

The Az is the same 224 - But the Elev and Tilt (if I understand) are not true site elevation. The tilt is for alignment with equador<sp>?

I'm going to run my own cable this weekend.

Thanks

That could be your biggest problem. If you are having to go through trees the microwave signal could be blocked. DSS sat signals don't like water, leaves , etc .

Its stricktly line of sight and anything in the way will kill the signal!!
